Following 50 matches over four weeks, only two teams remain as Italy and England do battle at Wembley Stadium on Monday morning (AEST) in the Euro 2020 final. Betting Planet’s soccer expert presents his best bets and match analysis for what is sure to be a memorable decider.
Italy vs England match analysis – EURO 2020 final
Italy booked their spot in the Euro 2020 decider by beating Spain in a penalty shootout in the semi finals. Federico Chiesa continued his strong form when finding the back of the net (60’) for the second time in the tournament, but a late equaliser from Alvaro Morata (80′) forced the game into extra time and subsequently penalties. Despite having just 30% of possession in the game, Italy were resolute in defence and held their nerve in the shootout while the Spaniards crumbled.
The Italian defence has been the key behind their success at the tournament; centre backs Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini brings immeasurable experience, while 22-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma has been rock-solid in goal. Chiesa, Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne make up a dangerous front three, while few teams can match the midfield trio of Nicolo Barella, Marco Verratti and Jorginho.

For the first time since their 1966 World Cup win, England find themselves in a major tournament final once again. Gareth Southgate has managed this English line-up to near perfection despite copping criticism from all angles over his tactics and team selection. His introduction of Harry Maguire into the back four in the second half of the tournament has proved to be crucial, while the use of Jordan Henderson off the bench to shore-up results has been just as important.
This English defence had proven to be impenetrable up until a wonder-goal from Denmark’s Mikkel Damsgaard in the semi finals. Despite going down 1-0 in that game, England were quick to respond when Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling combined to help find the back of the net prior to half-time. While the Three Lions were the better team for large periods, they had to wait until the 104th minute to get the go-ahead goal – and even then, Harry Kane needed another bite at the cherry after Kasper Schmeichel saved his penalty attempt.
Soccer bookies are finding it hard to split Italy and England in the Euro 2020 final betting, and it is easy to see why. Everything points to a cracking contest at Wembley.
Italy vs England predictions & best bets – EURO 2020 final
Match winner: England
Football is coming home! Towards the back end of the second half against Denmark, the Three Lions looked the side many had predicted them to be prior to the tournament getting underway. It was only Kasper Schmeichel’s efforts in goal that stopped England from securing the win within 90 minutes, and on Monday we expect them to convert their chances and secure the win in normal time. With an in-form Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling in attack and a defence that has conceded just the one goal all tournament, everything is pointing towards European Championship glory for England.
England to win
Anytime goalscorer: Raheem Sterling
Prior to Euro 2020, Raheem Sterling was the definition of a whipping boy for England fans, but his efforts so far at this tournament have been nothing short of sensational. The Manchester City star has three goals and an assist for the tourney, and we expect him to bag his fourth goal at some stage on Monday as the Three Lions bring football home.
Raheem Sterling anytime goalscorer
