T20 World Cup 2024: England v West Indies preview
Two T20 World Cup heavyweights will be looking to get their Super Eight campaign off to a great start this Thursday (AEST) as England face the West Indies in St Lucia.
England enter this match as slight favourites at -125 with Marantelli Bet, with the West Indies paying +100 despite playing at home.
Last weekend, England secured their second victory of the tournament as they beat Namibia by 41 runs. Led by Harry Brook (47* off 20) and Jonny Bairstow (31 off 18), England set a score of 126 to win, which proved far too tough of a task for the African underdogs.
The Brits were fortunate to make it out of the group stage, as their only victories came against Namibia and Oman. However, they are still one of the favourites to lift the trophy, paying +550 with top cricket bookmakers.
On the other hand, the West Indies completed a full sweep of Group D as they beat Afghanistan by 104 runs. Led by a destructive 98 off 53 balls from Nicholas Pooran, the Caribbean side set a massive score of 218 to win. Afghanistan never got close, bowled out for 114 in just 16.2 overs.
Finishing first in their group, the West Indies are having an excellent tournament on home soil. As such, top cricket betting sites also have them at +550 to win the T20 World Cup.
England v West Indies predictions
England need to improve drastically if they are going to be competitive in this clash. The West Indies are in much better form and have arguably the most explosive batting lineup in the tournament. Playing at home, the tournament co-hosts offer great value as slight underdogs with T20 bookmakers.
Although he has only had one full batting innings this World Cup, England captain Jos Buttler looks the most dangerous batsman in this clash. After consecutive scores of 84 and 39 in a warm-up series against Pakistan, the wicketkeeper has averaged 33 runs per game for the tournament. Buttler made a duck against Namibia and will be eager to bounce back, so take him for 30 or more runs at +110 with top sports betting sites.
Sitting in second for most wickets in the tournament, West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has had a great start. He took wickets in every match of the group stage and starred against New Zealand, finishing with figures of 4/19. As he bowls with the new ball and at the death, the Antiguan will have plenty of opportunity to collect three or more wickets at +550 with top online bookies.
