England v South Africa preview
England continue their 2024 ICC T20 World Cup campaign early on Saturday morning (AEST) as they face South Africa in a heavyweight Super Eight clash in St Lucia.
At -151.52 with Unibet, England enter this clash as favourites. That leaves South Africa as underdogs at +120.
England kicked off the Super Eight stage with an impressive performance on Thursday as they beat the West Indies by eight wickets. Chasing 181 to win, it was Phil Salt (87* off 47) and Jonny Bairstow (48* off 26) who did most of the damage, knocking the total off in just 17.3 overs.
After a disappointing group stage, this was a much-needed result for England that sets them up to finish first in Group 1. Top cricket bookmakers are confident in their chances from here, with the third-best odds of +400 to win the tournament.
South Africa also secured a win in their opening match as they beat the USA by 18 runs. Led by opening batsman Quinton de Kock (74 off 40), it was an excellent team innings with the bat as they set an impressive score of 4/194. In the field, they were able to take consistent wickets as they limited the USA to just 176.
Despite the win, the Proteas were unable to secure a much-needed net run rate boost against the weakest side in their group. With big matches against England and the West Indies ahead, cricket betting sites are giving them odds of +600 to lift the trophy.
England v South Africa predictions
Although South Africa are undefeated, they have faced the easiest draw of any remaining side. Coming up against the defending champions, the Proteas may struggle to match their quality with bat and ball. After their dominant performance against the West Indies, back the English to win and secure their place in the semi-finals at -151.52 with Unibet.
Leading the way for England with six wickets in this T20 World Cup, fast bowler Jofra Archer has made an excellent return to international cricket. With a wicket in every match so far, the 29-year-old is also going at just 6.58 runs per over on the batter-friendly pitches in the West Indies. Despite the experience of the South African batting lineup, back Archer’s speed and accuracy to stand out as he takes two or more wickets at +150 with top sports bookmakers.
South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje has also had an excellent tournament, taking 10 wickets across his five matches. The 29-year-old has taken a wicket in every match, with standout figures of 4/7 coming against Sri Lanka. Back Nortje to trouble the English batsmen at the death, taking two or more wickets at +150 with T20 betting sites.
