One of the NRL’s traditional rivalries will write another chapter when the Parramatta Eels host the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles on Friday Night Football.

Both teams disappointed in Magic Round and will be looking to bounce back, which will make this a must-watch game for all fans.

Parramatta came home in the second half against the Roosters but eventually fell 31-24, which confirmed everything everyone knew about the Eels.

They are the one team both the Panthers and Storm have managed to lose to, but they followed up once again with a disappointing start to the game which saw them chasing the contest all afternoon.

Inevitably, the part of the Parramatta cycle they are entering is the ‘bounce back’ phase where they atone for a bad performance against the Roosters and produce a big win.

It brings the 13+ margin into the equation at around $2.60 with online bookmakers, especially if Tom Trbojevic’s knee continues to plague him.

Even as poorly as they played in the first half in Brisbane, Parramatta’s second half – where they scored three tries in eight minutes – showed just how potent they can be.

With that kind of scoring punch, Manly should be feeling a little nervous.

Isaiah Papali’i got a double last week, but it is hard to see him reproducing that kind of effort, although a Bailey Simonsson double at $7 is worth a look.

Reuben Garrick looked as though he was on a treadmill last week at different stages and could not get a ball to bounce his way.

Simonsson has been a big improver in 2022 and he could be the beneficiary of Manly’s left edge being down on confidence.

Manly might not be a contender every year for the premiership, but is there a world in which they miss the top eight this season?

They currently sit ninth, have the Storm next week and then enter the State of Origin period, where they’ll be without the Trbojevic brothers and Daly Cherry-Evans.

Given how rough Tommy Turbo looked last Friday night, he appears to be in worse shape than Manly are willing to let on.

That spells huge danger for the rest of their season, but in the immediate future against Parramatta it means they just aren’t going to have the fire power to get into a shootout with the Eels.

The Eels have scored 20 or more points in eight of their 10 games this year, and while Manly have achieved that six times, it comes with a few caveats.

Against the Sharks they were down 32-0 at halftime, so the game had lost it’s sting, and against the Rabbitohs they were down to 12 and faded as expected.

Their attack last season was near unstoppable, but the rule changes have hurt them more than most clubs and it means they can’t build scoreboard pressure by just throwing it to Tommy.

The Eels middle forwards were caught napping for the first try last weekend, and when you see Josh Aloiai at $12.50 to get across the stripe, you just have to throw some spare change at the big man.

He runs with incredible intensity and has been playing career-best football. If he gets a sniff close to the line you can bet he will do all he can to give the punters what they want at that price.

Key matchup: Moses vs Cherry-Evans

Daly Cherry-Evans and Mitchell Moses are among the best halfbacks in the NRL, and that makes you watch the game a little closer. Moses still has a nice burst of speed which makes him a running threat, but DCE always finds a way to get himself into the contest with either a great clearing kick, a big chase, or finding space for an edge forward.
