Double for Thompson and a suspension
For the second time in a fortnight apprentice Ben Thompson has ridden a double before incurring a careless riding suspension.
Thompson rode a double at Caulfield on December 16 before being rubbed out for 12 meetings with Sandown on Saturday his first meeting back.
The apprentice guided Light Romance and Ozi Choice to success on Saturday before Racing Victoria stewards suspended him out for causing interference on Light Romance in the Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap, resulting in Bellegano, Purely Royal and Mawzoona being checked.
Stewards deemed the interference in the mid-range and suspended Thompson for 11 meetings which begins following the Sandown meeting on Wednesday.
He can return for the Flemington meeting on January 13.
Fellow Cranbourne apprentice Ethan Brown was outed for seven meetings for shifting ground aboard runner-up Petite’s Reward in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap, hampering the winner Deconi.
His suspension also begins following Wednesday’s meeting and he returns in time for the Sandown meeting on January 10.
