Dettori bids for Classic double on Enable

Frankie Dettori will be back from injury to partner Epsom Oaks winner Enable in her bid to add the Irish Oaks at the Curragh to her Classic win in England.

Dettori injured his arm in a parade ring fall at Yarmouth on June 13.

He rode in the French Oaks five days later but missed the Royal Ascot meeting at which he would have ridden Gold Cup winner Big Orange and American filly Lady Aurelia, winner of the King’s Stand Stakes.

He will return at Newmarket on Thursday two days out from the Oaks meeting.

“I’ll be back on Thursday and fingers crossed it should be all systems go for the Curragh on Saturday,” Dettori said.

“Enable is a lovely mare. She won a Classic by five lengths and the obvious choice of race was the Irish Oaks.”

The John Gosden-trained Khalid Abdullah-owned Enable was a brilliant winner at Epsom, seeing off Coolmore’s Rhododendron by an emphatic five lengths.

“Enable is in good form. We have freshened her up after the Oaks at Epsom and she is building up nicely for the Irish Oaks at the Curragh,” Gosden said.

“She hasn’t been over raced. She was impressive at Chester and Epsom.

“We are hopeful that she is very much going in the right direction.”
