Darren Beadman a winner on final day

Promising gelding Badajoz ensured Darren Beadman would spend his last Saturday as interim trainer for the Godolphin a winner with an impressive performance at the Sunshine Coast.

Despite sitting deep for the race, Badajoz ($2.70) was too strong, winning by 1-1/2 lengths from Invincible Express ($4.20) with a long head to Misery ($10) in the card-opening 1000m Handicap.

Beadman took over as interim trainer for Godolphin in May, when John O’Shea resigned, and will hand the reins to James Cummings next Saturday.

It was Beadman’s 35th winner since taking over with the Group One Stradbroke Handicap the highlight.

“This is my Iast Saturday as interim trainer and I have really enjoyed the experience” Beadman said.

“We have had a good winter thanks to the hard work of the staff looking after the team up here.”

Badajoz is likely to head to Grafton next week for the Ramornie Handicap or Kirby Sprint.

“He had been unlucky his past two in Sydney and they were good runs. He had a bit on them today,” Beadman said.

“I wasn’t worried when he was deep as he was in his rhythm.”

Damian Browne started his day in style with the win on Badajoz.

“He may have been deep but he was travelling and that was the way he obviously likes to race,” Browne said.
