Daniel Schmitt outed over banned substance

Victorian jockey Daniel Schmitt has been suspended after returning a positive swab to a banned appetite suppressant.

Schmitt provided a urine sample after riding trackwork at Romsey on August 2 which contained phentermine.

Racing Victoria stewards stood him down from riding on August 20 and on Friday he pleaded guilty to a charge of providing a sample which on analysis contained a banned substance.

He was suspended for six weeks, back-dated to August 20.

Schmitt can resume riding trackwork once he provides a clear sample.

Stewards have issued two charges against trainer Andrew Benyan in relation to the condition of the now-retired racehorse Propiska.

He was charged with failing to provide proper nutrition for the horse and of failing to provide veterinary treatment where treatment was necessary when he was either the owner and or trainer of Propiska.

A date for a hearing before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board has yet to be set.
