After another big win in Japan, Damian Lane is after Australian success at the Gold Coast.
Australia’s form jockey Damian Lane has four rides at the Gold Coast as he chases another major victory.
Lane is on the Gold Coast to ride Conceited for Godolphin in Saturday’s $125,000 Gold Nugget (1100m) and will also partner Fun Fact (The Wave), Amorita (Fillies and Mares Rising Stars) and Royal Hale (Colts and Geldings Rising Stars).
Conceited is trying to emulate his James Cummings-trained stablemate Exhilarates and win at the Gold Coast to earn a start in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 11.
Exhilarates gave Godolphin a first Magic Millions Classic win last year.
A $625,000 Magic Millions yearling, Conceited is 14th in the ballot order and should make the Classic field even if he does not win on Saturday.
Lane had a 2019 to remember winning the Golden Slipper on Godolphin’s Kiamichi and the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate on Japanese horses Mer De Glace and Lys Gracieux respectively.
The jockey cemented his relationship with Japanese-trained horses during a successful stint in Japan in 2019.
He rode Lys Gracieux to win the Group One Takarazuka Kinen in Japan in May and and was again aboard the mare in the recent Arima Kinen.
