The battle for the Wooden Spoon will take place at the Gabba this year as the Brisbane Lions host the Carlton Blues.

Now, this match is far from the most important when it comes to the 2018 season, but it will be a huge match in the context of the future. The loser of this match will most-likely receive the wooden spoon and the number one pick in the 2018 draft, which has been touted as the best draft in years.

The Lions played very well in round 15 and were able to knock off an injury-depleted Fremantle Dockers at Optus Stadium. Cam Rayner led the way for the Lions and kicked two goals, also gathering 19 disposals, a performance that later earned him the Round 15 Rising Star nomination.

Carlton played well against the talented Port Adelaide Power, but everything fell apart after the young group couldn’t sustain the effort for a full four quarters.

The Blues do not have a player that can confidently shut down the likes of Dayne Zorko, whereas other sides in the past have targeted the small star.

Patrick Cripps to get 30 Disposals @ $1.70

This young gun is one of the best emerging players Carlton has had in a decade. The way Patrick finds the footy, in addition to his ability to go forward and kick goals makes him a crucial component to the team. We think the Blues will use Cripps as a midfielder this week in order to get the footy forward to Charlie Curnow. He should be able to accumulate the ball 30 times in this match.
