The Renegades open up their season at Blundstone Arena against the Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday, December 21.

Desperate to make an impact on finals after some disappointing seasons, the Renegades will play four of their five home games at Etihad Stadium. A venue for the match against the Sydney Sixers on Wednesday, January 3 is yet to be announced, but could see the side travel to Geelong.

Can the Adelaide Strikers win their first ever BBL title after seven attempts?

The Strikers will open the season up against last year’s bottom-placed side, the Sydney Thunder, on Friday, December 22 at Adelaide Oval.

They were second in average crowd numbers in the 2016/17 BBL season, attracting 41,275 to their matches. Expect more of the same this summer.

A match against the Melbourne Stars at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, January 9 should tip in more than 50,000 fans.

Can the Hurricanes recover from a lacklustre seventh-place finish in 2016/17 and climb back up the ladder?

Hobart’s job will not be made easy by the amount of travel the team must complete, playing its last three matches in Adelaide, the WACA and MCG on the final run home to the finals.

Can the Scorchers do it again?

Perth has won the BBL championship three times and finished second twice in the league’s six-year history, establishing a powerhouse club that is the envy of the competition.

A healthy schedule with a good run home at the WACA will put the Scorchers in a nice position to have another tilt at a fourth title.

After being hurt by injuries and player ineligibility as they finished second on the ladder in 2016/17, the Brisbane Heat will be a big contender this season.

Opening up against the Melbourne Stars at home will be an excellent barometer for the side’s aspirations – much will still lie with big hitters Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum.

After winning the 2015/16 BBL title, the Sydney Thunder struggled badly in pursuit of back-to-back gongs and finished dead last in ’16/17.

Can the Thunder bounce back into finals? The key could be in how they perform in a first month with games against the Sixers, Strikers, Heat and Hurricanes.
