Conditions right for Destiny’s Kiss in Cup

Veteran stayer Destiny’s Kiss is almost a standout as the best wet-tracker to race on the Villiers day card.

As rain fell in Sydney on Friday, so to did Destiny’s Kiss’ odds for the Christmas Cup with the eight-year-old already carrying $11 to $6 support.

In 11 starts on tracks rated in the heavy range, Destiny’s Kiss has won five times as part of an overall record of 10 wins from 36 outings in rain-affected going.

And as Randwick figured in an early morning downgrade, Destiny Kiss’ stocks soared for a race certain to be more testing than the average off-season 2400m race.

But rival trainer Chris Waller is confident two of his three runners can go close to matching Destiny’s Kiss for their adeptness in the wet.

Waller has topweight Index Linked, Beyond Thankful and Soviet Courage taking their place in the Listed race.

“Soviet Courage won three races on heavy tracks some twelve to sixteen months ago and Beyond Thankful is a swimmer,” Waller said.

“The (wet) is really going to help those two and bring them right into the race.”

Soviet Courage came from last to return to winning form at Rosehill last month and he shades last-start ATC Cup placegetter Beyond Thankful for favouritism at $4.60.
