Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney will lock horns at the MCG for the second preliminary final of the 2019 AFL Premiership season.
A week filled with drama has built the anticipation levels beyond tipping point, headlined by Toby Greene’s suspension for misconduct and Lachie Whitfield’s appendicitis.
Greene was expected to line up for the Giants this week until a clear camera shot caught him clawing across the face of Lachie Neale last week. The Giants were unable to turn the decision at the tribunal and have decided to appeal.

Greene’s fate will be determined two nights before the match, but Whitfield’s has already been sealed as he was stricken with appendicitis on the Wednesday before the match.
Collingwood has a few issues to deal with internally too. Levi Greenwood suffered an ACL injury and Jordan De Goey did his hamstring in the win over Geelong two weeks ago, so two players will need to come in this week.
James Aish and Matthew Scharenberg will fight for Greenwood’s spot, whilst Travis Varcoe and Ben Reid loom as forward selections depending on whether the Pies want to go for an extra tall.
The Giants ambushed the Magpies last time they played, piling on 50 points in the first quarter, but both sides have changed dramatically since.
Collingwood vs GWS Giants player disposals tips
Adam Treloar to get over 32.5 disposals @ $1.91 with Sportsbet
The ex-GWS star has now played over 80 games for the Magpies with an average of 30 disposals per game. It wasn’t his best performance against the Cats, but Treloar will bounce back with a strong match. He has eclipsed 30 disposals in 18 of his 23 matches in 2019, one of the highest numbers of 30-disposal matches in the league. With Matthew de Boer set to tag one of the Collingwood players, Treloar will need to use his speed if he wants to get loose.
Tim Taranto to get over 27.5 disposals @ $1.96 with Sportsbet
He had an average game against the Lions last week, but Taranto will bounce back well against the Pies. The St Kevin’s graduate had 32 disposals in round 18 the last time he faced the Magpies, one of his many high-disposal totals for the year. With Whitfield and Greene out of the midfield, you can expect Taranto to step up and fill the void.
Collingwood vs GWS Giants goalscorer odds
Jamie Elliott to kick two goals @ $1.62 with BetEasy
Out of the many Collingwood forwards, only Elliott is in good form and performs well against the Giants. Brodie Mihocek has not kicked many goals against the orange men, while Jaidyn Stephenson is still find his feet after a lengthy ban. With De Goey out, Elliott simply appears to be the most likely target inside 50 this week.
Jeremy Cameron to kick three goals @ $2.25 with BetEasy
Cameron has it all – great hands on a lead and in a pack, an excellent build and very good leading patterns. The star Giant has kicked 32 goals in his eight games against the Pies, with a six-goal haul in round 18 this year. Jordan Roughead can match Cameron for most assets, but quick ball movement will leave the defender in vulnerable positions.
Collingwood vs GWS Giants total match points betting
Over 145.5 total points @ $1.89 with Bet365
Four of the last five clashes between the Pies and Giants have exceeded 170, with three games posting over 200 total points. If they try to play clean and precise football, they will not be able to score heavily, but due to finals conditions and the significance of the contest, you will see more risk taken late in the match.
Collingwood vs GWS Giants match predictions
Collingwood Magpies to win @ $1.33 with Bet365
Greater Western Sydney Giants +21.5 @ $1.91
The Pies will have over 85,000 fans cheering for them this weekend, while the Giants will struggle to find 5,000. With such a one-sided crowd and the recent omissions of two key midfielders for the Giants, it looks like a second straight GF for Collingwood.
