Craig McRae and the new-look Collingwood Magpies will hunt for their second win of the 2022 AFL season this Saturday when they face the exciting Adelaide Crows at the MCG.

The Crows were centimetres away from winning their round one contest against the Dockers, who escaped with a one-point victory in a thriller at Adelaide Oval.

Now the Crows will be on the road against an up-and-about Magpies squad that swooped the Saints last Friday night to start the season with a 17-point victory.

Rory Sloane was originally suspended for this contest, but the Adelaide skipper successfully challenged the ruling at the tribunal and is free to play.

Nathan Kreuger could line up for his debut in the black and white this weekend after overcoming a concussion in the preseason, while Will Hoskin-Elliott is also available for the Magpies after exiting isolation.

The Pies are moving the ball with more dare under McRae, which worked a treat for their forwards last week. Brody Mihocek was one beneficiary of the quick ball movement, as Collingwood’s three-time leading goalkicker put through three majors against the Saints.

Key matchup: Patrick Lipinski vs Ben Keays

Some players flourish when given opportunities, and these two midfielders are prime examples. Ben Keays could not break into Brisbane’s midfield when he entered the AFL in 2016, but he has turned into a dangerous accumulator since moving to Adelaide in 2020. Patrick Lipinski was one of the more intriguing trades of the offseason, and it looks like it could be a massive success story for the Pies after he collected 30 disposals and kicked a goal on debut. Both players can find the footy, but who will have the bigger influence on the game this weekend?

Collingwood vs Adelaide match predictions

This will be the first clash between these teams at the MCG since 2017, as the last four contests have been played at Adelaide Oval. The Magpies won all four recent clashes against the Crows away from home, so you can expect a big performance in front of their home fans this weekend. We think the visitors will put up a decent fight, enough to even consider the 1-24 margin at $3.10 with Sportsbet.

Collingwood vs Adelaide disposal betting tips

Ben Keays was hard to stop last weekend, as the crafty midfielder racked up a massive 37 disposals against a strong Fremantle midfield. Keays loves to run and should use the wide boundaries of the MCG to his advantage, using his pace to spread from stoppages and rack up uncontested possessions. The former Lion collected 33 against the Pies midway through 2021 and has since improved, so we like him to have 30 or more touches again this weekend.

Collingwood vs Adelaide AFL same-game multi

The Magpies should notch their second win of the season this Saturday in what promises to be a thrilling contest. Ben Keays and Pat Lipinski have hit the ground running and should both find plenty of the footy, while Brody Mihocek will lead the way for the Pies up forward.
