Cautious path for 3yo Couldn’t Refuse

In-form three-year-old Couldn’t Refuse will have to take another major step up in performance if he is to embark on a Magic Millions campaign.

Couldn’t Refuse was an impressive Sunshine Coast winner at his last start and steps up to city grade in Saturday’s Three-Year-Old Handicap (1600m).

Trainer Desleigh Forster paid $110,000 for Couldn’t Refuse who is by Rothesay out of Alyssa Jane making him a full brother to the stable’s stakes winner Too Good To Refuse.

Forster has taken her time with Couldn’t Refuse who has run two seconds and won a race in three starts since a spell.

“He is eligible for the Magic Millions but I don’t want to rush him,” Forster said.

“I think he is six months away from being at his best and that makes him a winter carnival horse.

“For all that you never say never and if he was to produce something exceptional on Saturday you would have to reconsider.

“The 1600 metres and Eagle Farm should suit him so we will see.

“Anyway he has a few years ahead of him to race at Millions time.”

Couldn’t Refuse is raced by a which includes some of Forster’s staunchest supporters. Christine Mayne and Mary Collier.

“They have been terrific supporters and I would love to win another big race for them,” Forster said.

She prepared Chapter and Verse to win the $1 million Magic Millions QTIS race this year for several of Couldn’t Refuse’s owners.
