The final Friday night of the NRL regular season will get underway at Sydney’s Olympic stadium when the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs host the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.

The Bulldogs are the $1.50 favourites with online bookmakers despite losing their last four games on the trot, while Manly come in at the $2.60 price as they attempt to end their season on a positive note.

Canterbury might have lost their last four games, but for the most part they’ve made their opposition work for it. The Sharks and Cowboys didn’t have it all their own way, the Warriors scored three tries in the final seven minutes of their contest to blow the score out on a close game, and the Eels did what a top team should do to a bottom team.

While they’ll be frustrated their season is ending on a rough note after seeing some green shoots through June and July, the Doggies have hardly embarrassed themselves.

With one final chance to impress incoming coach Cameron Ciraldo for the 2023 season, that will be one of the motivating factors for Canterbury.

With Manly’s implosion ending any chance for either side to impact the finals race, all they can do now is play for pride.

Josh Addo-Carr and Matt Burton should both get across for a try in the final game of the year. Roll that combo into any multi and you should get a nice return. Manly are going to give minimal effort on a chase if Burton is able to put the ball on a dime for his strike weapon on the wing.

Bulldogs 13+ is absolutely in play at $2.60 with BetOnline, given Manly have conceded 40 or more in their last three games.

Manly Warringah are rarely on a six-game losing streak given the rich history of success the club has enjoyed over the years, so the end of the 2022 season has turned into one of their darker periods.

The lack of heart on display in Canberra was alarming. A try dropped with the line wide open and numerous missed kicks at goal meant they were lucky to not give up 60 points.

Their backline is reserve-grade standard currently as they have a whole host of players injured.

If Canterbury are able to get back to some of their free-flowing play where they swing the ball wide at any opportunity, Manly will be a red-hot chance to concede 40 for a fourth-straight game. We will be pulling the record books out at that point.

The game does signal the end of Kieran Foran’s Sea Eagles career. His 198th and final appearance for the club puts him at 18th all-time, which is an achievement the Kiwi can be proud of when his career ends.

The line is just +6.5 for them at this stage, but that feels incredibly short.

Key matchup: Kyle Flanagan vs Daly Cherry-Evans

Daly Cherry-Evans needs to remind selectors of Australia’s Rugby League World Cup team he exists this week when he comes up against Kyle Flanagan. He is the far superior player, but with his team playing so poorly around him, is he able to put himself in the shop window? It isn’t often the incumbent Australian halfback isn’t playing in a finals series, so he needs a big one.

Bulldogs vs Sea Eagles NRL betting predictions

Canterbury should win this one by around 20 points. They’ve played with plenty of spirit in the last three months and Manly are at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
