The Canterbury Bulldogs are facing some serious odds for their meeting with the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Stadium Australia on Good Friday in round four of the NRL 2021 season.
Much like the Sea Eagles vs Panthers clash on Thursday night, this doesn’t resemble anything close to a competitive contest. The Bulldogs are much worse than many of us anticipated, while South Sydney are rounding into form nicely on the back of their dominant win over the Roosters.
The Bulldogs haven’t scored a point since round one and are more than a fair chance of going three consecutive weeks without troubling the scorers. The incredible line of 21.5 is as high as there’s ever been in NRL betting history, and the $9 head-to-head price for Canterbury is a big number but still feels short.
Scoring zero against Penrith is fine, but doing the same against Brisbane is an enormous cause for concern. It’s going to be one-way traffic.
Key matchup: Kyle Flanagan vs Adam Reynolds
Kyle Flanagan should get the highlight reels of his opposite halfback Adam Reynolds and study up, because that is exactly the player the Canterbury Bulldogs need him to become. Flanagan against the Broncos appeared to be going through the motions when the Bulldogs were trying to attack. He was playing at a slow pace and looked no threat to engage the defensive line, while Reynolds is the masterful conductor of a team that has a ton of moving parts. Flanagan needs guys around him to play their role, but for the Bulldogs to be any chance at scoring points, it rests solely on his shoulders without a good hooker or a recognised five-eighth in the side.

We struggled to find some juicy tryscorer odds for the Sea Eagles, and it might be even harder to do the same for Canterbury. They had one chance against Brisbane and Kyle Flanagan dropped the ball with the line wide open. After that, they never got close again. We think Nick Cotric might be the one who breaks the drought, as a strike centre with the skill set he possesses is bound to cross at some point.

South Sydney Rabbitohs betting info
A fortnight ago we loved the left-edge combination of Latrell Mitchell, Alex Johnston and Cody Walker to all cross at any time, and we got a nice collect. The brittle edges of Canterbury make this an absolute must for some value in what might be a non-competitive game. It feels repetitive to throw the same names out, but since 2018 the left-edge attack for the South Sydney Rabbitohs has been absolutely dominant no matter who wears the jersey. The enormous line tells us the real Easter miracle would be the Bulldogs making a game of it.

Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs betting prediction
The -21.5 on the Rabbitohs should be snapped up, and there should also be a little dabble on the Bulldogs to be held scoreless for the value bet. Confidence in your attack doesn’t happen overnight, and it will be a long day for the Bulldogs.
South Sydney Rabbitohs -21.5
Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs same game multi
Get on Souths -21.5 with Alex Johnston to score the first try. He holds the record for the most tries at Stadium Australia and became a father earlier in the week. The footy gods will look after AJ and the Souths faithful.
Rabbitohs -21.5 / Johnston first tryscorer
