Brownlow Medal 2024 team-by-team preview & top betting tips
With the 2024 Brownlow Medal being awarded on Monday night, there can only be one winner. However, there are still plenty of exotic betting markets across the board. Here are our best bets for all 18 teams on the night.
Adelaide: Izak Rankine to poll 10 votes
Crows jet Izak Rankine was in the mix for an All-Australian spot before injury and suspension interrupted his season. From rounds 5-10 he is likely to poll in all but one game, while he is almost guaranteed three votes against the Giants in round 16.
Rankine to poll 10 votes
Brisbane: Hugh McCluggage to poll 15 votes
While Lachie Neale will be the standout for the Lions, Hugh McCluggage is another player to watch. The star midfielder had over 20 disposals and multiple goals on four occasions this season and should come home strong, potentially getting votes in five of the last seven rounds.
McCluggage to poll 15 votes
Carlton: Tom De Koning most votes excluding Cripps and Walsh
Outside of the star midfield duo, Carlton’s Brownlow votes will be spread right across the park. Ruckman Tom De Koning is the value bet here; he will likely have two three-vote performances in rounds 13 and 15, while he is also a chance at polling in round six, 11, 12 and 17.
De Koning most votes for Carlton excluding Cripps and Walsh
Collingwood: Josh Daicos most votes excluding Nick Daicos
Besides Nick Daicos, there aren’t tipped to be many big vote-getters for the Magpies. It should come down to a few big games, where Josh Daicos leads the way. He will likely need just six votes to clear Jack Crisp, who had two best-on-ground performances in 2024 but is not expected to poll in any other game.
J. Daicos most votes for Collingwood excluding N. Daicos
Essendon: Zach Merrett to poll 25 votes
One of the top contenders for the 2024 Brownlow Medal, Zach Merrett started the season in excellent form and is a chance to poll in all but three games before the mid-season bye. Although the likes of Nic Martin and Sam Durham may steal some votes, Merrett has a strong record in Brownlow voting and could be set for a career-best tally.
Merrett to poll 25 votes
Fremantle: Andrew Brayshaw to poll 15 votes
With the likes of Andrew Brayshaw, Jordan Clark and Hayden Young a chance to steal votes off Caleb Serong, he is a risky pick for a high tally. As such, take the safety of Brayshaw, who will have at least 10 votes from rounds 15-20 and should snag a few ones and twos in the first half of the season.
Brayshaw to poll 15 votes
Geelong: Max Holmes most votes
The Cats don’t have any serious contenders for the 2024 Brownlow Medal, but their club vote will come down to key forward Jeremy Cameron and half-back Max Holmes. Most Brownlow predictors suggest it will be a close race between the two, but at $9 with Bet365, Holmes offers excellent value if it goes his way.
Holmes most votes for Geelong
Gold Coast: Noah Anderson to poll 20 votes
Noah Anderson was a standout in the Gold Coast midfield this season, especially during their impressive winning streak in home games. He is a chance to poll in five of his first seven games and should have the most three-vote games for the Suns.
Anderson to poll 20 votes
GWS: Tom Green top-five finish
With his main competition coming from key forward Jesse Hogan and half-back Lachie Whitfield, Tom Green is a strong candidate to poll better than expected. With several of the top contenders likely to lose votes to teammates in star-studded midfields, Green is a good value selection.
Green top-five finish
Hawthorn: Jai Newcombe over 17.5 votes
For Hawthorn, the runaway leader on the night will be Jai Newcombe. After a slow start — much like the team — Newcombe is expected to poll consistently from round six onwards, while he looks set to secure six votes in the last two rounds.
Newcombe over 17.5 votes
Melbourne: Christian Petracca most votes
It should be a very quiet night for the Demons, with a two-horse race between Max Gawn and Christian Petracca for the most club votes. Gawn has traditionally polled well, but with most tips separating the two by a couple of votes either way, Petracca is a good value selection.
Petracca most votes for Melbourne
North Melbourne: Luke Davies-Uniacke most votes
Expect another two-horse race at North Melbourne between Luke Davies-Uniacke and Harry Sheezel. From rounds 9-19, Davies-Uniacke could poll in eight out of 10 matches. As an inside midfielder, expect him to collect more votes than Sheezel, who spent plenty of time across half-back.
Davies-Uniacke most votes for North Melbourne
Port Adelaide: Connor Rozee to poll 15 votes
While votes will be hard to come by in the star-studded Port Adelaide midfield, Connor Rozee will bank a lot of them early. The Power captain is sure to poll well in the first five rounds of the season, while he also had two potential best-on-ground performances in the second half of the year.
Rozee to poll 15 votes
Richmond: Tim Taranto most votes
Despite missing a large chunk of the season, star midfielder Tim Taranto is still tipped to poll well after what was a dire season for the Tigers. The former Giant is a good chance for full votes in rounds 13 and 14, while he could also poll in rounds three and 24, which should be enough to beat his teammates.
Taranto most votes for Richmond
St Kilda: Rowan Marshall to poll 15 votes
Rowan Marshall was a standout in an indifferent year for the Saints — particularly from round 16 onwards, where he could poll in six out of nine games. Top ruckmen have done well in the past, while there is a lack of clear competition for votes within the St Kilda team.
Marshall to poll 15 votes
Sydney: Errol Gulden top-five finish
It will be a busy night for the Swans, who are widely tipped to poll the most votes as a team. The midfield trio of Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner and Errol Gulden will all be in the mix, but Gulden is the most compelling option. At $4.25, Sydney’s top disposal-getter offers great value for a top-five finish.
Gulden top-five finish
West Coast: Elliot Yeo most votes
Don’t expect too many Eagles to poll well, but midfielder Elliot Yeo stands out. He could receive full votes in rounds five and six, while he also had strong performances in rounds 12 and 21.
Yeo most votes for West Coast
Western Bulldogs: Adam Treloar top-10 finish
As a constant accumulator in the Bulldogs midfield, Adam Treloar will be in the mix for votes regardless of the match result. He will have to compete with Marcus Bontempelli, but the rest of the Dogs shouldn’t pinch too many.
Treloar top-10 finish
