The Brisbane Broncos will kick start their 2022 campaign with a first round match up against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night and Bettingsite’s NRL tipster Harry Ramage brings you the betting preview, top tips and the best same game multi for this clash.
Seeing the ground under flood water last week makes the fact this game is going ahead in Brisbane all-the-more incredible, and it is unfortunately the only thing going for the Broncos in this game as a $3.75 outsider with Marantelli Bet.
Star recruit and new skipper Adam Reynolds has been ruled out under COVID protocols, robbing the promoters of the main story line for this game. His old club come into the match as a $1.28 favourite and boast almost all their key players who came within a whisker of taking out the premiership last season.
Historically you’d never see the Brisbane Broncos as a $3.75 outsider on their home field, but such has been the fall in standards in recent years, it’s completely warranted.
Had Adam Reynolds been available, the +10.5 line would have been the way to go as the Rabbitohs get used to life with Lachlan Ilias as halfback and Jason Demetriou as coach, but we can thank COVID for ruling this option out.
Corey Oates is the first try scoring favourite for the home side at $13, but you get the sense Broncos fans might get on Selwyn Cobbo at $14 out on the right wing. He has the size and strength advantage over Alex Johnston and Brisbane have to believe that’s a much easier edge to try and score down as opposed to Campbell Graham’s side of the field, where he has quietly gone about becoming one of the best defensive backs in the competition.
Kotoni Staggs is the $2.25 favourite to score at any time and he makes a great choice for a same game multi with the online bookies.

An incredible statistic that almost makes the Rabbitohs too hard to ignore is this. They’ve won their last 22 games in a row as a favourite.
A big part of being a top four side consistently is winning the games you’re expected to, and this number above all else proves why they’ve finished no worse than the Preliminary Final each of the last four seasons.
Punters would have made plenty of cash getting on Alex Johnston to score the first try or at any time this year, but at just $1.36 to cross the stripe, why not take the $6.50 on offer for him to get over first?
Campbell Graham at $15 presents the best value pick in that market, while Keaon Koloamatagi at $26 close to the line might be worth your spare change.
Key Match Up: Kurt Capewell v Keaon Koloamatagi
Kurt Capewell has been the off season signing that has snuck under the radar for most fans, but he will skipper the Brisbane side on club debut in the absence of Adam Reynolds. Capewell has only known success as an NRL player, having played a role in the Panthers Grand Final win as well as being the 18th man for Cronulla in the 2016 decider. His leadership has to rub off on the young Broncos pack and he has to out play his opposite man Keaon Koloamatagi.
Koloamatagi is an absolute handful every time he gets the ball on an edge and a lot of good things happen when he gets involved.
Is Capewell able to close down the Souths dynamo? If he has a blinder, it brings Brisbane into the contest.
Broncos vs Rabbitohs betting predictions
The Rabbitohs win comfortably enough at the 13 plus margin but we don’t get any real answers about how their new-look spine will go for 2022 with Latrell Mitchell still absent. Alex Johnston scores for the Bunnies and Selwyn Cobbo gets his first try in what should be a big season for the talented youngster.
South Sydney Rabbitohs 13+
Broncos v Rabbitohs same-game multi
Rabbitohs 13 plus with Alex Johnston first try scorer and Selwyn Cobbo any time try scorer is a $29 multi everyone should want to be on.
Rabbitohs 13+ / Alex Johnston first try scorer / Selwyn Cobbo anytime try scorer
