Blake Shinn suspended for careless riding

Blake Shinn has been suspended for eight meetings after pleading guilty to a careless riding charge on Sydney Cup day at Randwick.

Racing NSW stewards charged Shinn for allowing Sizzling Bullet to shift in on The Pinnacle at the 200m ATC Heritage Handicap (1600m).

That action caused Corey Brown to cut across, forcing Brenton Avdulla to check the Chris Waller-trained Gold On Black, who eventually placed sixth.

“I only feel I’ve shifted maybe a half a horse. I don’t feel it’s a great shift,” Shinn told stewards.

“Avdulla has got tight and then the horse straightens back up again.

“I feel I’ve made an effort (to straighten). I don’t feel it’s a high degree of carelessness.”

Waller’s Oklahoma Girl, the $4 favourite, won by a neck from Sizzling Bullet and The Pinnacle.

Shinn, who had five previous suspensions over the last 12 months, is suspended from April 30 and is free to resume riding on May 12.
