Blaike McDougall keeps winners coming

Apprentice Blaike McDougall has continued his good form with a winning double at Warwick Farm.

Apprentice Blaike McDougall has kept his winning momentum going with a double at Warwick Farm to go with his Randwick treble.

McDougall’s three winners on Saturday was a personal milestone in town and he emphasised his form was no fluke with his two on Wednesday.

He brought up his first on Akasaki for Scone trainer Stephen Jones in the TAB Handicap (1000m) before riding Tahsin for his boss John Thompson to win the TAB Rewards Handicap (1600m).

McDougall has ridden Akasaki at his past six starts for two wins and two minor placings.

“He’s a thick-winded horse and you just need to let him do his own thing and get him to relax,” McDougall said.

“You can’t expect him to do it at both ends and he finished off well today.”

McDougall is also familiar with Tahsin who led all the way at his first start since he won the Mudgee Cup on December 1.

“I’ve had a fair bit to do with him from a young age,” McDougall said.

“There was no speed and he landed in front and travelled well.”

McDougall will be riding at Thursday’s Gosford Cup meeting and returns to Randwick on Saturday.

“I feel as if I’ve always ridden the same but it’s great to get the opportunities and to get the job done,” he said.

Jason Collett also came away from Warwick Farm with a winning double on the Gary Portelli-trained Nicci’s Gold and Danzie for the Bjorn Baker stable.

His two winners took Collett to 31 for the season and into third equal on the premiership with Hugh Bowman and Tye Angland.

But Collett will have to wait to add to his tally with a careless riding suspension to keep him out from Thursday until February 2.
