Australia v Namibia match preview

Australia will be looking to continue their hot start to the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup when they face minnows Namibia in Antigua on Wednesday morning (AEST).

The Aussies enter this clash as heavy favourites at $1.03 with Bet365, while Namibia are rank outsiders at $21 with PlayUp.

It was an impressive win from Australia in their previous match, where they beat defending champions England by 36 runs in Barbados. It was a team effort with the bat as each of Australia’s top five scored more than 25 runs, setting an impressive total of 201. In the second innings, the Aussies’ tight bowling left England struggling to match the required run rate as fast bowler Pat Cummins and leg-spinner Adam Zampa each led the way with two wickets.

As a result, the Aussies are now expected to finish top of their group, with online bookmakers giving them the second-best odds to lift the trophy at $3.75.

Namibia suffered their first loss of the tournament in their last fixture as they fell to Scotland by five wickets. Led by a thrilling 52 off just 31 balls from Gerhard Erasmus, Namibia set a competitive total of 155. However, in their chase, Scotland always had the run rate under control, securing the win with nine balls to spare.

With one win and one loss, Namibia have shown a mixed bag at this T20 World Cup. However, with games against both heavyweights Australia and England to come, they aren’t expected to make it out of the group stage.

Australia v Namibia predictions

As one of the favourites for the tournament, Australia should be far too strong for Namibia across the park. Although they offer little value, back them in at $1.03 with Bet365.

Aussie opening batsman David Warner has been destructive to start this World Cup, particularly in the powerplay. With scores of 56 and 39, expect the 37-year-old to be too good for inferior opposition as he scores 50 or more runs at $2.75 with top cricket bookmakers.

With two wickets in each of Australia’s matches, Adam Zampa has been a handful for opposition sides. As Namibia will have to push the run rate through the middle overs, expect Zampa to force some errors as he takes three or more wickets at $3 with T20 betting sites.
