Ash Barty multi odds and best bets – Australian Open 2019
THERE are Aussies everywhere in Wednesday’s singles schedule at the 2019 Australian Open.
Ashleigh Barty has an excellent opportunity to reach the third round of the women’s draw, while Kimberley Birrell, Zoe Hives and Astra Sharma will look to spring upsets over higher-ranked opponents.
Alex de Minaur is on track to progress, but things are not so rosy for the other Aussie men in action on day three.
Matthew Ebden has the unenviable task of facing Rafael Nadal, John Millman has a tricky matchup with Roberto Bautista Agut and Jordan Thompson takes on Andreas Seppi, the losing finalist at the Sydney International.
Let’s see where the value lies at Australia’s best tennis betting sites.
AO Multi of the Day – Wednesday, January 16
- Ash Barty to win
- Maria Sharapova to win
- Gael Monfils to win
- Jordan Thompson to win
Multi odds = $4.85 at Sportsbet
Ashleigh Barty (15) vs. Yafan Wang
Barty $1.12
Wang $5.50
Neither of these players were tested in the first round, but there is a notable discrepancy in their respective lead-up schedules.
While Wang was battling to the semis in an ordinary field in Shenzen, Barty was testing her game against the likes of Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza in the Hopman Cup.
The young Australian followed that up with an impressive run at the Sydney International, where she beat Jelena Ostapenko, Simona Halep, Elise Mertens and Kiki Bertens en route to the final.
Although this is the first time these two have met on the WTA Tour, Barty should have no issues.

Maria Sharapova (30) vs. Rebecca Peterson
Sharapova $1.22
Peterson $3.75
Sharapova made short work of Harriet Dart in the first round, but the 6-0, 6-0 scoreline does not tell the whole story.
A stronger opponent may have taken greater advantage of the Russian star’s seven double faults – an unusually high number from only six service games.
In contrast, Peterson landed 81 per cent of first serves and won 74 per cent of those points in her victory over Sorana Cirstea.
The unheralded Swede is headed in the right direction, but Sharapova should have the class and the nous to get the job done.
Gael Monfils (30) vs. Taylor Fritz
Monfils $1.57
Fritz $2.25
Is there anyone better to watch than Monfils in full flight?
The French entertainer delighted the galleries on Monday with a dominant straight-sets win over Bosnia’s Damir Dzhumur.
Now he faces an emerging American who is looking the reach the third round at Melbourne Park for the first time in his short career.
While Fritz has genuine talent and Monfils is prone to the occasional brain snap, experience should win out on this occasion.
Jordan Thompson vs. Andreas Seppi
Thompson $2.25
Seppi $1.57
These two have never met on the ATP Tour, but they do have something common.
Both lost to de Minaur in Sydney last week, while Thompson also fell at his compatriot’s hands at the Brisbane International.
Seppi’s preparation was excellent and he showed plenty of poise to oust Steve Johnson over four sets on Monday.
But this multi needs an injection of value and Thompson looks a decent bet after sweeping aside Feliciano Lopez first up.
