Arlington G1 clean sweep for Chad Brown

Trainer Chad Brown has claimed all three Group One turf races at the Arlington Million meeting in Chicago.

The Brown-trained Bricks and Mortar won thre feature when he ran down the Aidan O’Brien-trained Magic Wand and he also sent out Sistercharlie to win the Beverly D. Stakes and Valid Point the Secretariat Stakes.

Bricks And Mortar is the dominant force on turf in America and booked his ticket for the Breeders’ Cup Turf in the process.

The winner’s breeding rights have been secured by Teruya Yoshida’s Shadai Farm in Japan which has recently lost Deep Impact and King Kanemahema.

“He’s an amazing horse,” co-owner Seth Klarman said.

“Chad got him ready off a long lay-off to do what he’s done. Chad and his staff have just done a remarkable job. It’s been an amazing experience.”

O’Brien also played second fiddle to Brown in the Secretariat with Van Beethoven unable to reel in Valid Point.

Another European, the William Haggas-trained Awesometank was second to Sistercharlie in the Beverly D, her second win in the race.

“She’s the horse of a lifetime,” Brown said.

“It is such an honour to be associated with her.”

Owner Peter Brant now has his eyes on a possible clash with Enable at the Breeders’ Cup. Sistercharlie won the Filly & Mare Turf last year while Enable won the Turf at the same meeting.

“I’d like to run against Enable. It would be great for the sport,” Brant said.
