AFL Same Game Multi selections for Giants vs. Magpies
AFL Round 8 – GWS Giants vs. Collingwood
Saturday, May 13, 2017 – 4:35pm AEST – Spotless Stadium
ONE of the big questions leading into round seven was whether Toby Greene’s absence would have any impact on Greater Western Sydney’s title tilt.
It turns out the Giants missed their suspended forward as they went down to an impressive St Kilda outfit at the Docklands last Friday.
It wasn’t all on Greene’s shoulders, however, as Adam Kennedy was forced off early in the piece after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Also out of action is Jacob Hopper, who had surgery on a broken finger this week.
In better news for the Giants, Stephen Coniglio made his first appearance for the year against the Saints and put in a solid shift with 24 touches, nine tackles and a goal.
GWS could have another big gun back this week, with Lachie Whitfield tipped to slot straight into the 22 after completing a six-month ban for dodging a drug test.
Meanwhile, the Magpies could be missing their biggest star – for part of the game, at least.
Scott Pendlebury said this week that he would fly back to Melbourne immediately if his wife, Alex, went into labour with their first child.
Collingwood’s football operations manager, Marcus Wagner, will be on standby to deliver any news on-field, so there is a chance the Pies captain could abandon ship mid-game.
Also in doubt for the clash at Spotless Stadium is former GWS star Adam Treloar, who is battling a groin problem.
Travis Varcoe is another week or two away as he recovers from a hamstring strain, while Josh Thomas is facing a fitness test on his foot.
Collingwood have never lost to GWS, but a 2-5 tally in 2017 – including a demoralising defeat to Carlton last week – suggests that perfect record may not last much longer.
GWS vs. Collingwood Same Game Multi bet
Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au now gives punters the option to make AFL multi bets within the same game, and we have a cheeky little three-legger for this one that offers plenty of value.
GWS by 1-39 points – +125
Taylor Adams 30 disposals – +100
Jonathon Patton three goals – -149.25
Multi payout = $11.25 at Sportsbet
GWS to win by 1-39 points
+125 at Sportsbet
If Greene was playing and the likes of Coniglio and Whitfield had more games under their belts, the 40+ bet would be a cinch. As things stand, we reckon the Giants should win by four or five goals. However, keep an eye on the team sheets – if Pendlebury or Treloar or both are out, take GWS for the big win at $2.20.
Taylor Adams to have 30 disposals or more
Regardless of how well or how poorly Collingwood play, this guy knows how to win the hard ball. Adams is averaging a tick over 30 touches per game in 2017 and has cracked that mark four times in seven outings. Three of those 30+ games came against current top-eight teams – Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and Geelong – so it would come as no surprise if he did it again.
Jonathon Patton to kick three goals or more
-149.25 at Sportsbet
‘The General’ has been up and down since returning to active duty in round four. After kicking six against Port Adelaide on his comeback, he has added only five goals in three games. However, with Collingwood a little short on quality key defenders and the ever-dangerous Jeremy Cameron sure to get the bulk of the attention, Patton could do some real damage.
