AFL Round 16 multi selections, value tips & betting bonuses

AFL Multi of the Week
AFTER three shortened rounds in a row, the full round of footy is back this week – and not a moment too soon.

We may be facing a final eight that is set in stone, but that does not mean the teams outside finals contention are giving up hope.

It is make-or-break time for Port Adelaide, who face a Thursday night visit from league leaders Hawthorn.

Port Adelaide is the only team outside the eight in single figures at Sportsbet.com.au to make the finals at $6.

All odds this week are provided by Sportsbet.com.au.

Port Adelaide vs. Hawthorn

Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

When: 7:20pm, Thursday 7th July

It is do-or-die for the home side on Thursday night as Port host Hawthorn to kick off the round and our multi.

The Power were fantastic last week in their shutout victory over Richmond, while Hawthorn enjoyed the week off football via the bye.

For Port to win, they will need another productive game from Kane Mitchell.

The long-haired midfielder has often been maligned throughout his career, but his shutdown role on Trent Cotchin last time out was the key to his side’s victory.

If Mitchell goes to his Hawthorn namesake and can replicate last week’s heroics, it will go a long way to securing his side the win.

Port have won three of their last four games against the Hawks and have never lost to them at AAMI Stadium, their old home ground.

The season is on the line, and we are expecting Ken Hinkley’s men to react accordingly and register their most important win of the season.

Port Adelaide to win – $2.70

Geelong vs. Sydney

Where: Simonds Stadium, Geelong

When: 7:50pm, Friday 8th July

Two of the four sides who have occupied top spot on the ladder face off on Friday night in Geelong.

The Cats and the Swans are both keen to secure a position inside the top two to secure a home final, given there are now six teams locked on 40 points.

Sydney lost a nail-biting contest against the Western Bulldogs at the SCG last week – their second last-gasp defeat this season.

Geelong, who were stunned by St. Kilda a fortnight back, are fresh off the bye.

Chris Scott will be expecting a big Friday night performance from both Patrick Dangerfield ($2.25) and Joel Selwood ($8), who are first and second favourite in the 2016 Brownlow medal betting at Sportsbet.

The Cats have not lost to the Swans at Simonds Stadium for over five years and, given their dominant form against teams in the eight (6-1), we consider Geelong to be our best bet on the weekend.

Geelong to win – $1.48

Gold Coast vs. Brisbane

Where: Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast

When: 4:35pm, Saturday 9th July

If it weren’t for the chance to make a few bucks on the punt, most footy fans would avoid the Q Clash altogether.

That being said, the Suns were fantastic last week in their dismantling of a St. Kilda side that had pipped Geelong only a round prior.

The game marked the true return to form of Gary Ablett Jr., who dominated the Saints’ midfield en route to collecting 25 decisive disposals.

The Lions had last week off with the bye.

Gold Coast were the shock losers in the reverse fixture earlier in the year, handing the Lions their first – and so far only – victory of the 2016 AFL season.

We’re not expecting a repeat, however, so it’s the Suns to keep our parlay rolling in leg three.

Gold Coast to win – $1.20

West Coast vs. North Melbourne

Where: Domain Stadium, Perth

When: 2:50pm, Sunday 10th July

Top-four aspirants West Coast and North Melbourne round off our AFL multi this week at Domain Stadium.

The Eagles continued their dominant home form rolling on Thursday night, recording an impressive 78-point win over Essendon.

North Melbourne had the week off via the bye.

West Coast have controlled this fixture in recent years, winning 13 of 18 matches in Perth – including five of the last six.

It is hard to see any possible outcome other than an Eagles win here, and we are expecting Adam Simpson’s men to do it in style.

West Coast to win – $1.42
