AFL Injury Update: Dangerfield out, Saints lose three players
In a blow for the Geelong Cats, captain Patrick Dangerfield is set to miss the next two AFL games owing to a minor hamstring injury sustained in the late stages of their victory against Adelaide last Friday night.
Although initial concerns arose regarding the severity of the injury, scans have revealed no significant damage.
Consequently, Dangerfield is expected to only sit out matches against Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs before making a return to action.
Brett Johnson, assistant football boss at Geelong, expressed optimism about Dangerfield’s swift recovery, stating, “We expect ‘Danger’ to only miss two weeks, so we look forward to getting him back on the park soon.”
The St Kilda Saints face a setback with midfielder Brad Crouch sidelined for more than a month after suffering a knee injury during a VFL fixture.
Subsequent scans confirmed the necessity for arthroscopic surgery, adding Crouch to a growing injury list that already includes Mason Wood (collarbone) and Liam Henry (hamstring) — both casualties from St Kilda’s win against Collingwood in round two.
Meanwhile, Western Bulldogs recruit Nick Coffield is bracing for another extended spell on the sidelines.
Coffield’s dislocated shoulder during Sunday’s clash against Gold Coast has necessitated surgery, effectively ruling him out for a minimum of three months.
This setback marks a premature end to Coffield’s return to AFL action, having made a comeback after nearly 938 days out of the game.
