The Adelaide Crows will look to make amends when they host the GWS Giants this Saturday at the Adelaide Oval in round seven of the 2021 AFL season.
Both sides currently lie outside the top eight, although the Crows would be sitting pretty in the finals places if they hadn’t blown a 32-point lead against Hawthorn last week.
Both clubs will need to make slight adjustments at the selection table, as the Crows will miss young defender Will Hamill (ankle), while the Giants will be without Nick Haynes (hamstring) and Xavier O’Halloran (shoulder).
Jackson Hately’s inclusion into the Adelaide 22 has come at the right time, as the youngster will get the chance to play against his former club this weekend.
Adelaide Crows vs GWS Giants match preview
The time has come for Leon Cameron to bring in the Giants’ biggest offseason recruit, as Jesse Hogan is primed for a return to senior football this Saturday. Hogan has kicked seven goals across his last two VFL performances, topping the goalkicking column for GWS in both matches.
Hogan’s return will have a big impact on the GWS forward line, as he should draw the best defender and still hit the scoreboard. Look out for the former Demon and Docker in the goalkicking markets, but still consider the in-form Toby Greene.
With Matt Crouch (groin) and Rory Sloane (eye) sidelined for a couple more weeks, the Crows will lack experience in the midfield again this round. Hawthorn star Jaeger O’Meara got a hold of the Crows last week, so it might pay to load up at the Giants’ star on-ballers in the disposal markets.

Key matchup: Taylor Walker vs Sam Taylor
The two Taylors will be the most important players on the ground in this round seven bout. Sam Taylor is an excellent lockdown defender, but Tex Walker has wound back the clock this season.
The Crows provided Walker with some strong support up forward last round in Elliott Himmelberg and Riley Thilthorpe, with the latter kicking five goals in an impressive debut. Thilthorpe can get up the ground and allow Walker to play deep inside 50, where the former captain will look to isolate Taylor one-out.
Adelaide Crows vs GWS Giants betting tips
Josh Kelly to get 25+ disposals
Online bookmakers are being extra generous with their odds for Josh Kelly this week, as the 2017 All Australian midfielder is paying over $2 to get 25 disposals. Kelly had 34 touches in his last clash with the Crows and averages nearly 30 disposals in games at Adelaide Oval, so lock in Kelly to dominate the possession count this Saturday.
Josh Kelly 25+ disposals
Adelaide Crows to win
We like the underdogs in this contest. The Crows should have finished off the Hawks in round six after a blistering start, while the Giants faded out of their contest against the Bulldogs. The injury to Nick Haynes is a huge loss for GWS, as the 2020 All Australian and reigning club best-and-fairest is critical to the team’s game plan.
Adelaide Crows to win
Same game multi: 3 legs @ $8.25
The Crows will pull off an upset in front of their home fans this weekend, led by their former captain Tex Walker in the forward half. The Coleman Medal leader should thrive in the conditions this Saturday, while Josh Kelly will be instrumental for the Giants out of the centre.
Adelaide / Kelly 25+ disposals / Walker 4+ goals
