Adelaide v Sydney R14 match preview

The Sydney Swans will be looking to extend their excellent run of form this Saturday night as they head to Adelaide Oval to face the Crows in round 14 of the AFL campaign.

Despite playing on the road, the Swans are clear favourites at $1.37 with Unibet, while the Crows are paying $3.20 with Bet365. The line is set at 18.5 points.

Last Thursday, Adelaide suffered their most disappointing loss of the season as they fell to the 17th-placed Richmond by eight points. Despite leading at half-time, a poor third quarter left them too large a margin to draw back.

Sitting in 15th on the ladder, the season seems over for Matthew Nicks and his side, as top AFL bookmakers have pushed them out to $26 to make the top eight.

However, in some positive news, the Crows are expected to regain the star forward pairing of Izak Rankine and Taylor Walker this week. Also, ruckman Reilly O’Brien is expected to return after Kieran Strachan was injured against the Tigers.

Sydney continued their unbeaten run at the SCG last Sunday, storming home to beat Geelong by 30 points. Despite conceding the first six goals of the game, the Swans rallied to ultimately run out comfortable victors. The midfield trio of Errol Gulden (37 disposals, one goal), Isaac Heeney (26 disposals, two goals) and Chad Warner (26 disposals, two goals) were all standouts.

Sitting eight points and percentage clear at the top of the ladder, the Swans are $3.50 premiership favourites with online bookmakers. And with Carlton and Essendon on a bye, Sydney have a chance to go even further ahead as they play their game in hand.

Don’t expect many changes to the lineup this week for the Swans, but utility Robbie Fox is a chance to return from a shoulder injury.

Adelaide Crows v Sydney Swans predictions

Given the Crows have won just one of their past five matches, an upset seems unlikely. The Swans have repeatedly shown they can come back from any margin, and they’ve have been equally impressive home and away. As such, back Sydney to cover the handicap of 18.5 points at $1.91 with Bet365.

Despite the Crows’ inconsistencies throughout 2024, midfielder Rory Laird is still one of their best every week. Collecting over 27 disposals in six of his last seven matches, Laird is the club leader for disposals, contested possessions and clearances. With Jordan Dawson expected to be tagged by Sydney’s James Jordon, back Laird to make an impact for Adelaide with 30 or more disposals at $1.90 with top sports bookmakers.

Having a career-best season in 2024, Will Hayward has become the most damaging option in the Sydney forward line. Averaging 1.9 goals per game, the 25-year-old has kicked multiple goals on eight occasions this year. Playing in game 150, back Hayward to have a big day with three or more goals at $4 with AFL bookies.
