Adelaide United vs Sydney FC betting tips and predictions
7pm ACDT Friday, October 11 at Coopers Stadium, Adelaide
Adelaide United – $2.88 at Sportsbet
Draw – $3.50
Sydney FC – $2.50
The 2019/20 A-League season kicks off this Friday as Sydney FC commence their title defence away to Adelaide United.
The Sky Blues start the campaign as favourites for the title, although some online bookmakers have them sharing the top line with last year’s runners-up, Perth Glory.
Steve Corica’s squad looks a little different this time around, with Alex Brosque retiring and the likes of Aaron Calver, Siem de Jong and Daniel De Silva now elsewhere.
There are some interesting additions, however, such as Kosta Barbarouses, Alexander Baumjohann and Socceroos duo Luke Brattan and Ryan McGowan.

The Adelaide roster has also undergone some significant changes since last season.
Local boy Craig Goodwin and long-serving schemer Isaias are gone, but Riley McGree comes in from Club Brugge and James Troisi adds plenty of experience to the midfield.
Also joining the Reds this term are Curacao defender Michael Maria and Norwegian forward Kristian Opseth.
Although they have lost a couple of their most reliable performers of the past few years, there is an air of optimism around Adelaide after their run to the semi-finals last season.
That mood is reflected in the A-League outright betting at Sportsbet.com.au, where punters have backed United into $8 for the title.
Adelaide United vs Sydney FC betting trends
- Sydney FC are undefeated in their last nine games against Adelaide United
- That run includes seven clean sheets and only two goals conceded
- Five of Sydney’s last nine games at Coopers Stadium have ended in a draw
- The Sky Blues are undefeated in their last six Round 1 matches
Adelaide United vs Sydney FC predictions
Under 2.5 total goals – $1.90 at Bet365
While Sydney are known for their solid starts, rarely are they high-scoring affairs. Seven of their last eight A-League openers have gone under 2.5 goals, and there is a good chance that trend will continue away in Adelaide.
Adam le Fondre anytime goalscorer – $2.10 at Bet365
Le Fondre made an immediate impact in his maiden A-League season, scoring 18 times as Sydney romped to the title. The English striker scored at Coopers Stadium on debut last year and looks a decent bet to do it again.
Sydney FC to win or draw – $1.40 at Bet365
The Sky Blues could have as many as four new players in the starting XI on Friday, so it is difficult to predict how quickly they will gel. Sydney’s record against the Reds is good, but it might pay to be conservative in this case.
