A Man To Match on Queensland Derby trail

A Man To Match showed why trainer Tony Gollan was keen to get him out to a middle distance with a record-breaking win at Doomben.

A Man To Match had run places at 1600m at his previous three runs but appreciated the 2000m of the final heat of the Eagle Way Stayers Series on Saturday.

Starting favourite, A Man To Match ($3.30) beat Trusty Lad ($3.60) by 3-3/4 lengths in 2.02.17 which took more than a second off the previous class record.

Gollan believes A Man To Match with natural improvement is a real chance in next year’s Group One Queensland Derby (2400m).

“I have always wanted to get him out to a middle distance. This series is great because it gives you a chance to build up your prize money for the Group One races next year,” Gollan said.

“The series final looks like being at Eagle Farm on December 22 and it will go out 2200m. It will suit him even better.”

A Man To Match is owned by Linda and Graham Huddy who have already won the Victoria Derby with Preferment and the ATC Australian Derby with Shoot Out.
