A-League Round 3 multi tips and betting specials
WE’RE a fortnight into the new A-League season and already the contenders are starting to reveal themselves.
Melbourne City and Sydney FC surged to the top of the premiership market with Sportsbet.com.au at the $4.50 quote, while the Victory ($6) and the Roar ($9) took a tumble after two lacklustre performances.
The Roar have the ideal bounce-back game against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, but the Victory will have their work cut out against the reigning premier Reds over in Adelaide.
All odds for the third week of the A-League season were provided by Sportsbet.com.au.
Selections for the A-League Round 3 multi of the week:
Melbourne City to defeat Perth Glory ($1.67)
Brisbane Roar to beat Central Coast Mariners ($1.75)
Melbourne Victory to beat Adelaide United ($2.80)
Western Sydney Wanderers to win against Newcastle Jets ($1.73)
Combined multi value: $14.15 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Melbourne City vs. Perth Glory
Friday, October 21 from 7.50 pm AEDST AAMI Park, Melbourne
Two of the more impressive teams from round two of the A-League season in the form of Melbourne City and Perth Glory meet in the Victorian capital to kick off the weekend of football.
City could not have been more brilliant in their 4-1 dismantling of fierce rivals Melbourne Victory last Saturday night. Tim Cahill’s 40 metre strike which opened the scoring sent shockwaves around the world and announced to the league he was not here just to collect a paycheque.
Perth overcame the bitter disappointment of their opening round draw against the Mariners to record a professional 2-0 win over the Phoenix to close out the round.
City are purring and look to be the team to beat at this early stage of the season. Although it is early in the season the long plane trip coupled alongside the short turnaround could hamper the Glory on Friday night.
Melbourne City should win their third straight game to start the 2016/17 A-League season.
Tip: Melbourne City to win – $1.67
Central Coast Mariners vs. Brisbane Roar
Saturday, 22 October from 5.35pm AEDST, Central Coast Stadium, Gosford
Second game in our multi sees Brisbane travel down to Gosford to face the Central Coast.
The Roar are looking to record their first win of this campaign while the Mariners are looking to regain some pride after a humiliating defeat last weekend – it bodes well for an intense contest.
Brisbane was embarrassed by Newcastle last week, losing 4-0 to a team that may predicted would be towards the bottom of the A-League table at the completion of the season.
It was the same score line for the Mariners who were hammered by the Sky Blues in a result that took the gloss off their opening round draw against the Glory.
Even at this early stage the Roar are in desperate need of a win. John Aloisi’s men have looked listless at times and defensively they have been inept.
This is the perfect game for Brisbane to get their season on track and we are expecting nothing short of a win.
Tip: Brisbane Roar to win – $1.75
Adelaide United vs. Melbourne Victory
Saturday, 22 October from 7.50pm AEDST, Coopers Stadium, Adelaide
One of the league’s oldest and most ferocious rivalries reignites on Saturday night as the Victory travel west to face the Reds in Adelaide.
Melbourne is winless to start the season after leading the Roar deep in to stoppage time in round one before getting hammered by City last week in the Derby.
Incredibly the sharpshooting Besart Berisha is yet to find the back of the net this season. The former Golden Boot winner represents terrific value at $2.63 to score at anytime on Saturday night at Sportsbet.com.au.
The Victory started the season as one of the premiership favourites, but after a fruitless fortnight they are out to the fourth line of betting at Sportsbet.com.au at $6.
Adelaide’s start has mirrored the Victory’s – only their draw (which came against the Jets) and the loss to the Wanderers should have resulted in wins. The Reds ($11) are out to double figures in the premiership market as a consequence.
The Victory have took much quality across the board to be winless two weeks into the season and we think they will chalk up their first win against the Reds in Adelaide.
Tip: Melbourne Victory to win – $2.80
Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Newcastle Jets
Sunday, 23 October from 7pm AEDST, Spotless Stadium, Sydney
Final game of the weekend sees the Wanderers hosting the Jets in a match that looks to be a terrific match up based on the season to date.
Western Sydney went behind away against the Reds in Adelaide but rallied back to record a hard fought 2-1 win last Friday night.
The Jets stunned the competition by thrashing one of the premiership favourites Brisbane 4-0 in a performance that made the competition sit up at take notice.
A win on the weekend would hand the Wanderers their fourth straight victory over the Jets who only have one win over Western Sydney since their inception.
The Jets could not have been more impressive last week against the Roar but we believe the Wanderers are the superior team and their class should shine through on Sunday night.
Tip: Western Sydney Wanderers to win – $1.73
