A-League R20 preview, free betting tips & best soccer odds
As the 2023/24 A-League season continues this week, the chase is on to see if anyone can catch the Wellington Phoenix in the race for the Premier’s Plate. Below are our A-League betting tips for all six matches of Round 20.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Western United
Friday, March 8 – 7:45pm AEDT – CommBank Stadium
Sitting on the bottom of the table, Western United shocked the Perth Glory last weekend with a 1-0 win. With just one loss from their past four matches, it appears that United have turned their form around. Facing the sixth-placed Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday night, they will be looking for just their second away win of the season, but given they have lost their past nine away matches, it is hard to see an upset here.
Western Sydney Wanderers to win
Melbourne City vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday, March 9 – 5:30pm AEDT – AAMI Park
With a three-point gap at the top of the table, the Wellington Phoenix have now gone 10 matches unbeaten. Now they are looking to record their first win over Melbourne City at AAMI Park in over 10 years. As City are winless in their past five, there has never been a better opportunity, so back the Phoenix as underdogs at +280 value odds with top online bookmakers.
Wellington Phoenix to win
Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday, March 9 – 7:15pm ACDT – Coopers Stadium
After going undefeated for the first 15 weeks of the season, Melbourne Victory have now suffered their third defeat in five weeks after a 3-2 loss to the Brisbane Roar. This week they head to Adelaide, searching for a win against a struggling United outfit that has conceded 15 goals in a six-match winless stretch. Watch out for Victory striker Bruno Fornaroli, who is looking to add to his 13-goal tally for the season.

Perth Glory vs Newcastle Jets
Saturday, March 9 – 6:45pm AWST – HBF Park
Previously on a run of six matches unbeaten, Perth Glory suffered a disappointing loss to the last-placed Western United last weekend. Looking to return to form, they welcome another struggling side, the Newcastle Jets. With just one win from their past 10 matches, an upset here seems unlikely given the Jets haven’t won in Perth since 2016.
Perth Glory to win
Macarthur FC vs Central Coast Mariners
Sunday, March 10 – 5pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium
The Central Coast Mariners will look to continue their charge towards the top of the table when they face the third-placed Macarthur FC this Sunday. On a run of three straight 1-0 victories, the Mariners have been excellent defensively this season; however, Macarthur FC hold the best attacking record in the A-League. Picking a result is difficult, but given the last seven matches between the sides have gone over the goals line, expect this one to be another high-scoring affair.
Over 2.5 goals
Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar
Sunday, March 10 – 5pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium
After a slow start to the season, Sydney FC have now worked their way into the top six with just one loss from their past 11 matches. As they look to put pressure on the sides above, they have an excellent opportunity against the worst defensive side in the A-League. While the Roar are substantial underdogs and haven’t won in Sydney since 2018, they have scored in all but one of their past 11 matches, which suggests they may trouble the Sydney FC defence.
