2017/18 A-League soccer betting

EXACTLY half the field remains unbeaten as we enter the fourth round of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League campaign.

More’s the pity, because a defeat for Western Sydney Wanderers in last week’s derby would have given us a monumental $44.97 collect on our round three soccer multi.

Do all these near-misses mean it is time to change course and opt for a more conservative ticket this week?

That isn’t an option this early in the season when the odds are all over the place, so strap yourselves in for another big, juicy five-leg multi bet.

A-League Round 4 multi tips

A-League multi pays $58.02 at CrownBet

Sydney FC vs. Perth Glory

Friday, October 27 – 7:50pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium

Sydney – $1.51
Draw – $4.40
Glory – $5.70

Although still unbeaten, the Sky Blues are making hard work of their A-League title defence. They managed to snatch a draw in the Sydney derby, but only after rallying from two goals down. Perth are the only team with a mark in every column on the A-League table after edging out Central Coast for their first win of the season. Diego Castro and Andy Keogh were excellent for the Glory in that clash, but Sydney’s stubborn defence should have the upper hand on home turf.

Wellington Phoenix vs. Brisbane Roar

Saturday, October 28 – 5:35pm AEDT – Westpac Stadium

Phoenix – $2.16
Draw – $3.55
Roar – $3.15

Wellington are winless after three rounds, but that record does them a grave disservice. The Nix will feel they should have at least halved the points with both Sydney FC and Melbourne City – the competition’s early pace-setters. With those results in mind, Darije Kalezic’s men must fancy their chances against a Brisbane outfit that has lost each of its first three games. The battling Roar midfield will have to keep close to Michael McGlinchey, who topped the league with six chances created last week.

Adelaide United vs. Melbourne City

Saturday, October 28 – 7:50pm AEDT – Coopers Stadium

United – $2.44
Draw – $3.45
City – $2.72

Vince Lia starred with a brace as United and the Victory split the points in a typically heated Friday night scrap at Adelaide Oval. Now the other half of Melbourne comes to town in search of a fourth consecutive win. Ross McCormack’s opportunistic free-kick was all that separated City and the Phoenix last week in what has to go down as a bonus win. The match odds are tight for a reason, and that is why we are tipping that both these sides will remain unbeaten.

Newcastle Jets vs. Western Sydney Wanderers

Sunday, October 29 – 5pm AEDT – McDonald Jones Stadium

Jets – $2.54
Draw – $3.45
Wanderers – $2.60

The Jets are absolutely flying. Two wins and a draw see last year’s wooden spooners sitting pretty in second place, and with a better goal differential than the league leaders. Wanderers will be kicking themselves after throwing away a two-goal lead in the Sydney derby, but there is no denying the efficacy of Oriol Riera and company in the final third. Western Sydney might be a little flat after their midweek exit from the FFA Cup, so look for Jets goal-machine Roy O’Donovan to blast Newcastle to another win.

Central Coast Mariners vs. Melbourne Victory

Sunday, October 29 – 7pm AEDT – Central Coast Stadium

Mariners – $3.35
Draw – $3.65
Victory – $2.03

The Mariners might be winless, but they have improved out of sight since their 5-1 thumping at the hands of Newcastle in round one. They took winning positions against both Wanderers and the Glory, only to run out of legs in the last half an hour. Also searching for their first three-pointer of the season are the Victory, who had to fight hard for a 2-2 draw in Adelaide last time out. This is a tricky little trip for Kevin Muscat’s men, but you can bet the alarm bells will start ringing if they cannot beat the wooden spoon favourites.
