A first for Cassidy with Snowden stable
It was apt on the day of super star Winx’s last race that Larry Cassidy recorded a career-first.
Cassidy rode Spin ($2.50) who was far too strong for the Artisan Carnival High Tea Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
The veteran jockey has ridden 43 Group One winners and is fast-approaching 3000 career victories but is best remembered for winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas on Winx in May 2015.
It was the first of Winx’s record 32 straight wins.
Spin is trained by the Peter and Paul Snowden partnership and has been in Queensland for three weeks preparing for the winter carnival.
“I am sure that was the first winner I have ridden for Peter when he was training in his own right,” Cassidy said.
“I rode winners for him when he was foreman for Darley but since he has been training in his own right I haven’t had a winner.”
