2017 Australian Open multi betting tips for opening day matches
WE are mere days away from the opening grand slam tournament of 2017 and anticipation is building for the crown jewel of the Australian summer of sport.
The team at BettingSite.com.au took a look at the opening round of the Australian Open and selected our four best bets and put them into a multi which looks to be tremendous value.
All odds for round one of the 2017 Australian Open were provided by WilliamHill.com.au, which is continuing its Chase the Ace promotion from 2016 into the New Year.
Place a $25 or more head-to-head bet on the 2017 Australian Open Tennis Men’s and Women’s Singles Tournaments and receive up to $10 in Bonus Bets for every ace your player serves.
Selections for the Day 1 Australian Open multi:
Gael Monfils to defeat Jiri Vesely ($1.25)
Mikhail Youzhny to beat Marcos Baghdatis ($2.40)
Philipp Kohlschreiber to defeat > Nikoloz Basilashvili ($1.20)
Bernard Tomic to progress past Thomaz Bellucci (1.44)
Combined multi value: $5.18 @ WilliamHill.com.au
Gael Monfils vs. Jiri Vesely
World number six Gael Monfils tackles the trick Czech Jiri Vesley in the opening round of the Australian Open.
It was this time last year that the Frenchman Monfils began his rise up the ATP world rankings, making the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, belying the 23rd seed he was assigned.
His opponent is a player on the rise who is still finding his feet on the tour. Last week he was thoroughly outclassed by veteran Marcos Baghdatis at the Auckland Open.
If Vesley plays well above himself and Monfils has some on-court rust to overcome an upset could happen, but we are backing the world number six to breeze into the second round.

Mikhail Youzhny vs Marcos Baghdatis
A pair of tour veterans lock horns on the opening day of the Australian Open.
Mikhail Youzhny returns to the Australian Open after spending much of his 2016 campaign on the challenger circuit. The Russian found his way back into the ATP top-50 after a great tail end to the year which saw him advance to the third round at the US Open.
Youzhny also has a great head-to-head record against Baghdatis.
The Russian has beaten the Cypriot in three of their last four meetings. Baghdatis is the favourite on paper here, but we are backing the former world number eight in the opening round at the Aus Open.

Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Philipp Kohlschreiber
Classy German Philipp Kohlschreiber tackles Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in what should be a walk in the park for 33 year-old.
Basilashvili is usually a challenger tour player, but the world number 94 gets a chance to showcase his talents on the big stage against the former world number eight.
Kohlschreiber has experienced moderate success at the Australian Open. The German has lost just once in the opening round – which was last year due to the fact he drew seventh seed Kei Nishikori.
This one looks to be a formality to us. Kohlschreiber should stream roll his opponent en route to the second round.

Bernard Tomic vs Thomaz Bellucci
Aussie bad-boy Bernard Tomic faces Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci in the final leg of our Australian Open round one multi.
Tomic has had a tumultuous build up to this year’s Open, but at his best the Aussie is one of the class players on the tour.
The Brazilian Bellucci has yet to hit his straps in 2017. The only tournament he has played in was the Sydney International where he was thoroughly outplayed Nicolas Mahut in straight sets.
There has been some concerns over Tomic’s fitness coming into this match but only once in eight attempts has the world number 27 failed to progress past the first round of the Australian Open.
We are happy to take the inflated odds on Bernie to add some value and round out the multi in style.
