When will President Trump make his first visit to Australia?
SO Donald Trump is the leader of the free world.
Has your skin finished crawling yet?
There were plenty of happy punters when America shocked the world yesterday, but the betting action doesn’t stop there.
Since the president elect caught up over the phone with our own Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Thursday, Sportsbet.com.au has released a market on just when The Donald might make his way Down Under.
And the bookie doesn’t think we will see the Orange One in official capacity until beyond next year.
He is a skinny $1.22 to wait until at least January 1 2018 to make his first appearance in Australia.
If you think he might come here either this year or next, you can get a $4 dividend on the earlier visit.
Mr Turnbull told media today that he spoke with Trump from his office in Parliament House this morning.
“We discussed the vital importance of the United States’ continued strong presence in our region,” Mr Turnbull said.
“We agreed that presence has been an absolutely essential foundation of the peace and stability that has enabled the remarkable growth and prosperity — the remarkable economic growth we have seen over the last 40 years.”
Mr Turnbull said he was confident Mr Trump would maintain the United States’ influence in the Asia-Pacific region
“That commitment, I am certain, will continue,” Mr Turnbull said.
“Mr Trump recognises that, appreciates and honours that, admires it.
“That alliance will be there long after Mr Trump is no longer president.
“Mr Trump recognises the solidarity that Australia has shown the United States and the United States has shown Australia over 98 years, during which we have fought side-by-side with the United States in every major conflict.
“I suppose as both being businessmen who found our way into politics, somewhat later in life, we come to the problems of our own nations and indeed world problems with a pragmatic approach.”
Sportsbet has had a bit of fun with this, putting some amusing catch ups on his itinerary, when he eventually does make his way to the real land of the free.
A fan of golf, Trump is a $4 chance to hit the links with our own Shark Greg Norman while he is here.
Noted racist MP Pauline Hanson is obviously a big fan of the Trump and the bookie thinks he is just as much of a chance of having fish and chips with her as he is as playing a round with Norman.
Tony Abbott Tweeted his approval of the Donald’s shock victory this morning and both men are a step away from normalcy, with the bookie giving $11 odds about the pair enjoying a raw onion together.
Ole mate Shane Warne could take him out to Club 23 if he’s in Melbourne, but that is the long odds of $34, while fallen Aussie Senator Sam Dastyari perhaps joining the new president in a halal snack pack is on the same line of betting.
“Trump will have a busy year ahead so we don’t expect Air Force One to arrive in Australia in 2017, but exactly when after that is anyone’s guess,” the bookie’s Ben Bulmer said.
“Whenever Trump arrives, we reckon we’ve devised a pretty good itinerary for the President-Elect, with a bit of golf with the Shark, maybe an onion with Tony and even a halal snack pack with the plucky Sam Dastyari.
“Bring it on.”
Could we see Australia’s The Apprentice boss Mark Bouris follow in Trump’s footsteps. He’s long odds of $251, but he would inspire less fear than the hairpiece.
Will we see another billionaire in Aussie politics after Clive Palmer? Cardboard prince Anthony Pratt heads the market for the next billionaire MP at $3, with gambling mogul James Packer at $4 and mining money Gina Rinehart paying $11.
