Super Saturday Football will be a grudge match on many levels, when the Parramatta Eels travel to Leichhardt Oval to take on the struggling Wests Tigers in round 17 of the 2022 NRL Premiership season.
You wouldn’t be blamed for forgetting the West Tigers resurrected their season by getting their first win of 2022 against the Eels in Parramatta, back when Michael Maguire was the coach and Adam Doueihi was still injured. Doueihi has since returned to first grade, but allegedly stated he’d rather play reserve grade as a five-eighth, than first grade as a centre. Will the Tigers implode for the Eels to win, or will the Eels continue their trend of losing to teams they should beat?
James Roberts has been the man to make way for Doueihi in the starting line-up, with Junior Paulo missing on representative duties. Ryan Matterson also returns for the Eels to bolster the forward pack. Matterson has spoken about sharpening up the Parramatta Eels on the field in discipline and effort, will he be able to ignite that change?
This game borders on being a punters nightmare, given these two sides are so incredibly unreliable. It will surprise no one that the money has come for the Eels. They will not have forgotten losing the unlosable game in round six, and the Eels should be using that game as motivation. On paper the Eels are the far more talented side, and with dryer weather conditions predicted, the Eels should be able to win this clash by 13+ points paying $1.90 with Palmerbet.
Eels captain Clint Gutherson has been on a tear in the last two weeks, scoring three tries to go with seven tackle breaks over 100m run in each match. Look for Gutherson’s form to continue Saturday as he continues to cross the try line, where he’s priced at $2.15 with the top bookmakers to do so at any time during the match.
Another Eel to look for is in the forward pack, and on the move to the Tigers next year. Isaiah Papali’i has been one of the form forwards of the 2022 NRL season, with multiple facets to his game. Papali’i can run for well more than 100m+, break tackles and defensive lines, and score tries. No matter which Tigers back rower marks up on Papali’i, they will have their hands full. Look for Papali’i to score at any stage during the match Saturday paying $3.35.
The Eels have one of the highest ceilings in the NRL when it comes to attack and piling on points. At the same time, the Tigers have an incredible ability to concede many points. With the Eels only missing one player with injury, much of the same plans and structures will be in place for the Eels come Saturday. This suggests that if the Eels do win by 13+ points, the total points for this match should also exceed 39.5 points at $1.90.
KEY MATCH UP: LUKE BROOKS v DYLAN BROWN
Luke Brooks continues to struggle at the Tigers, the narrative of much of his NRL career. Brooks will have his hands full even more this weekend as he is constantly looking over his shoulder for Doueihi to take his place, and the Tigers forwards struggle to set the platform for Brooks to ball play. His opposite five-eighth, Dylan Brown, is one of the best young players in the NRL. His defence and ball running are so strong, he has set the bar high for Brooks to meet. Can Brooks step up to bridge this gap and beat the Eels again?
