The second match of the AFL’s 2022 Good Friday double-header will see the West Coast Eagles host the Sydney Swans at Optus Stadium.
Adam Simpson’s Eagles were phenomenal in their upset victory over the Magpies last week, winning on the road despite missing over a dozen senior players.
John Longmire’s Swans were not as impressive in round four, as they only just scraped over the line against the Kangaroos despite starting as unbackable favourites.
Lance Franklin will miss the next fortnight of football after injuring his finger over the weekend, which will hinder the Bloods greatly considering they are also without All-Australian forward Tom Papley.
Five Eagles are racing the clock to prove their fitness before Friday rolls around, with Luke Shuey, Tim Kelly, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Elliot Yeo and Jamie Cripps all looking to bring some much-needed experience back into the line-up.
Neither side will have their first-choice ruckman for this contest, as both Tom Hickey and Nic Naitanui are currently on the injury list, which should even out the midfield battle.
Although the Eagles have not been the best out of the middle this year, they are still strong behind the ball and have more than enough talented forwards.
Liam Ryan is one premiership star who can turn the game in seconds, as he can take a big pack mark or kick a miraculous goal at ground level.
Ryan has only played four games against the Swans so far in his career, but he has kicked a major in each contest and should be one of the prime targets for the Eagles this Friday.

Key matchup: Isaac Heeney vs Jeremy McGovern
Very few players have started the 2022 season in as good form as Isaac Heeney, who has been a match-winner for the Swans with his elite goalkicking and work through the midfield. Jeremy McGovern may not directly match up with Heeney on the night, but his ability to intercept in the back half is up there with the best in the competition.
The goal for the Eagles will be negating Heeney’s impact up forward, while the Sydney Swans will plan on avoiding McGovern when going inside 50. Both these players are the most important assets for their respective teams this Friday, and we think they both will star under the bright lights at Optus Stadium.
West Coast vs Sydney match prediction
The last clash between these teams resulted in a massive 92-point victory to the Swans, but we think this week’s battle will be a much closer contest. Without Franklin and Papley running amok up forward, the Swans are far less potent inside 50, while the Eagles still have McGovern and Tom Barrass to repel wayward entries. While we are leaning towards the Swans, the safe bet is on either side to win by 1-24 points.
Either team by under 24.5 points
West Coast vs Sydney disposal betting tips
Jeremy McGovern has eclipsed the 20-disposal mark in each of his last two outings, which leaves his average at exactly 20 disposals per game in 2022. Since the Swans will be without some of their main men inside 50, we think McGovern will have a field day picking off kicks.
Jeremy McGovern 20+ disposals
West Coast vs Sydney AFL same-game multi
We expect the Eagles to use their momentum from last weekend to do some damage to the Swans this Friday, with Jeremy McGovern and Liam Ryan to star at opposite ends of the ground. It should be a close contest in the west this week.
Either team 1-24 / McGovern 20+ disposals / Ryan 2+ goals
