Moreton Daily Stadium hosts its first home game for the New Zealand Warriors of the 2022 NRL season when the Brisbane Broncos make the drive to Redcliffe for their 2pm clash this Saturday afternoon.
In 40 head-to-head matches, the Broncos have won 20, with one match being settled as a tie. These two clubs have been trading one-off blows of late as Brisbane were victors in their most recent clash in 2021, beating NZ by two points, while the Warriors were successful in 2020 by 10 points.
New Zealand opened as $2.50 outsiders but have been backed in to $2.30 at Marantelli Bet, while the Broncos have drifted from $1.55 out to $1.65. Both are interesting market moves seeing as the Broncos have looked far better than New Zealand so far this season, with the Warriors’ only victory coming in a scrappy four-point win over the Tigers, but seeing Shaun Johnson named in the extended bench could be the defining factor in this market.
Brisbane’s loss to the Cowboys at Suncorp could be sliced two ways: either the Broncos of the last two seasons are allowing old habits to creep back in, or they were simply dominated by a Cowboys outfit who wanted the win more. The latter of the two seems most likely, as the Cowboys completely bashed Brisbane in the centre third of the field on Sunday, and the likes of Adam Reynolds and Kurt Capewell would not allow for old habits to resurface.
It’s expected Brisbane to put in a much better defensive effort on Saturday afternoon and use this defensive mindset to create points in attack, to push the game over a total of 42.5 points in the match.

Key matchup: Battle of the halfbacks
New Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has already shown flashes of brilliance in his two games for the club, primarily against the Bulldogs, where his kicking and game management proved the difference and got Brisbane the win. Whether it be Kodi Nikorima or Shaun Johnson in the halfback spot for New Zealand, they will have an almighty battle on their hands, as Reynolds will continue to mould this Broncos team into the shape he wants them. If Warriors are any chance to win on Saturday, they need to shut down Reynolds as best they can.
Warriors vs Broncos predictions & best bets
In their last five encounters, neither favourite has been able to win and cover the line. Kotoni Staggs and edge partner Selwyn Cobbo are yet to make a huge statement in the NRL for 2022, but their day in the sun could come this weekend against a weaker Warriors left edge. Herbie Farnworth has also been in career-best form, scoring two doubles in a row for Brisbane, meaning the Warriors cannot be complacent on the left edge. Saturday should see the Broncos bucking the trend of not covering the line, as it’s set at -3.5 points and the Broncos offer a lot more attacking upside than that of the Warriors.
Brisbane Broncos -3.5
Warriors vs Broncos NRL same-game multi
The Brisbane Broncos should be able to cover the -3.5 point line en route to a win on Saturday, with the match going over 42.5 points on what should be a hard and fast Moreton Daily Stadium surface. Also look for Kotoni Staggs to score his first try of the season at any time in the match.
Broncos -3.5 / Over 43.5 pts / Staggs anytime try
