Twitter reacts to the Mayweather vs. McGregor press conference
THE contact is signed, the deal is done and now Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have finally stood face-to-face for the first time in a public arena.

The build up to the opening press conference was huge, but the event itself lacked the wow factor that Mayweather and McGregor invariably bring to the table.
That Mayweather and McGregor press conference was WEAK

The normally verbose Irishman was caught unaware by the format, which all the main parties involved in putting the fight together deliver their own address to the crowd.
McGregor admitted after the conference that he had “no idea” that he would need to give a speech, but the UFC Lightweight champion was still able to deliver a withering outburst to Mayweather that drew plenty of laughs from the crowd and social media.

Others questioned whether Conor actually misjudged the value of Mayweather’s tracksuit.
Mayweather's tracksuit is probably worth more than Conor's suit.

But we are not so sure.
Boasting he was wearing a suit with special pinstripes, one eagle eyed Twitter user was able to confirm what Conor said about his customised look.

When it was Mayweather’s turn to speak, he spat verbal fire.
The man they call money stated he would knock out his much younger opponent, and even asked which way McGregor would like the fight to end.

Many noted however, that The Notorious One’s microphone was cut off during the monologue, preventing McGregor from interjecting throughout.
Can't believe they cut off Conor McGregor's microphone. The back and forth is what makes his pressers a show. Disappointing#MayMacWorldTour

Many speculated that this was to protect Mayweather from getting roasted by McGregor, whose tongue lashings are as infamous as his first round knockouts.

One comment that drew plenty of attention from McGregor was a racial slur that he inadvertently threw Money’s way, but the Irishman seemed to realise the error in judgement and corrected himself almost immediately.

To say the comment did not go by unnoticed would be an understatement.

One Twitter user even speculated that Mayweather’s attire was in itself a race relations statement.

We are not sure about that one. What we are certain about however is the remaining dates on the press conference tour will need to step up significantly if they are going to generate additional pay per view buys.
When it comes to Mayweather and McGregor though, we know there will be plenty more controversy, talking points and verbal jousting along the way.
