Europa League Final 2025: Tottenham v Man United preview

Tottenham and Manchester United will battle it out for the 2024/25 Europa League trophy when they clash in Bilbao this Wednesday night.

The two English sides have had terrible domestic seasons, with both sitting in the bottom five on the Premier League table, but have a chance to salvage their respective campaigns with a trophy and qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham are looking to break a 41-year European trophy drought. After finishing fourth in the group stage, Spurs have advanced through the knockouts with wins over AZ Alkmaar, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bodø/Glimt.

United, meanwhile, are looking to add to their rich European legacy. They remain undefeated in the competition and have had a tougher path to the final, getting past Real Sociedad, Olympique Lyonnais, and Athletic Bilbao.

Looking at the head-to-head matchups between these teams this season, it’s been one-sided — Tottenham won all three meetings with a combined score of 8–3.

Europa League Final 2025 team news

Tottenham Hotspur’s expected starting XI:

GK: Guglielmo Vicario
RB: Pedro Porro
CB: Cristian Romero
CB: Micky van de Ven
LB: Destiny Udogie
CDM: Pape Sarr
CDM: Yves Bissouma
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur
RW: Brennan Johnson
ST: Dominic Solanke
LW: Son Heung-min

Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou has some tough decisions to make in midfield, with star trio James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Lucas Bergvall all unavailable. Pape Sarr is questionable with a back injury. That leaves Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur as locked-in starters.

Captain Son Heung-min recently returned from a foot injury and is expected to start up front alongside Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson. Meanwhile, the defence is expected to be at full strength.

Manchester United’s expected starting XI:

GK: Andre Onana
CB: Matthijs de Ligt
CB: Harry Maguire
CB: Leny Yoro
RWB: Noussair Mazraoui
CDM: Casemiro
CDM: Manuel Ugarte
LWB: Patrick Dorgu
RAM: Amad Diallo
LAM: Bruno Fernandes
ST: Rasmus Hojlund

United manager Ruben Amorim is expected to stick with his 3-4-3 formation, similar to the one that beat Athletic Bilbao in the semifinals. Centre-back duo Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt are expected to overcome injury concerns and join Harry Maguire in the back three.

Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu will operate on the flanks, while Manuel Ugarte is set to get the nod over Kobbie Mainoo in midfield alongside Casemiro. Captain Bruno Fernandes will be the playmaker, with Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund leading the attack.

Europa League Final betting predictions – Spurs v Man United

With neither team in particularly good form, this match is incredibly tough to call. However, based on previous matchups this season, Tottenham clearly have the edge over United. Spurs have the stronger attack, and a full-strength defence should be enough to hold off the Red Devils, so back the Londoners to win the trophy at +110 with leading online bookmakers.

Both teams have plenty of attacking talent, so expect goals. United’s last five Europa League games have gone over the total goals line, and three of the last four matchups between these teams have also gone over. With Tottenham fielding a fully fit front three, take the over in this one at +100 with top soccer betting sites.

Playing on the right wing, Brennan Johnson leads Tottenham with 17 goals this season. A dynamic forward, he can create his own chances and also capitalise on opportunities from the left side. At +335 with Neds, back Johnson to continue his scoring streak.
