Top odds, multi picks & betting specials for NFL Week 1
AS the NRL and AFL seasons hit their crescendos, the NFL is about to kick off to give us plenty more to bet on this season.
There are heaps of big stories heading into the new campaign that will keep things interesting.
Will the all-conquering Patriots ($5 at Sportsbet.com.au) justify their favouritism, or will we see the rise of an old foe such as the New York Giants ($21) or last year’s vanquished Super Bowl competitors, the Atlanta Falcons ($13)?
We won’t have all our questions answered in the first week, but there is money to be made nevertheless.
Multi selections for the Week One of the NFL Season:
Washington Redskins to beat Philadelphia Eagles ($1.99)
Los Angeles Rams to win against the Indianapolis Colts ($1.52)
Carolina Panthers to beat the San Fransisco 49ers ($1.50)
Minnesota Vikings to win against New Orleans Saints ($1.59)
Combined multi value: $7.21 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Monday, September 11 from 3am AEST at FedExStadium, Landover, Maryland
The Redskins and the Eagles kick off our NFL multi and we are banking on the home team continuing their good pre-season form.
The Washington ended their warm-up schedule with a strong 13-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without Kirk Cousins handling the ball. Cousins is a top-tier quarterback who adds a cool head and a big arm to the Redskins offense.
The Eagles come into the opening match of the season after suffering a disappointing 10-16 loss at the hands of the New York Jets. This worries us a lot, as do former number two draft pick Carson Wentz’s struggles with the number one QB tag in Philly.
We are big on what the Redskins can achieve this year and we think they will kick off their season – and our multi – in winning fashion.
Washington Redskins to win – $1.99
Los Angeles Rams vs. Indianapolis Colts
Monday, September 11 from 6.05am AEST at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles
The Rams and the Colts take us into the second leg of the NFL multi in a game that the home side should be winning.
After a disappointing opener last year for the freshly moved franchise, there is genuine pressure to start the 2017/18 season in good fashion. Thankfully for LA they will confront a significantly weakened team.
The big omission for Indianapolis is superstar quarterback Andrew Luck, who will miss the game through an injury to his throwing shoulder.
The Colts will struggle big-time on offense without Luck calling the shots and we expect the Rams to win this one easily.
Los Angeles Rams to win – $1.52
San Francisco 49ers vs. Carolina Panthers
Monday, September 11 from 6.25am AEST at Levi’s Stadium, San Francisco
Last year’s biggest disappointments, the Carolina Panthers, travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers in the third leg of our multi.
The home side played in one of the strangest pre-season games of all-time last week. After keeping the Vikings scoreless in the opening half they conceded 32 points in the remaining two quarters to lose by a point. The 49ers were in complete control even as late as midway through the final quarter in a bizarre display that further highlighted the immaturity of the team.
The Panthers suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the Steelers, but they competed without quarterback Cam Newton, who Carolina coach Ron Rivera says should be ready for the season opener.
The 49ers are destined for another dismal year, while the Panthers are genuine playoff prospects. We are backing the Super Bowl 50 runners-up to start their season the right way on Monday.
Carolina Panthers to win – $1.50
Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints
Tuesday, September 12 from 9am AEST at U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis
The final leg of the week one NFL multi sees Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints heading to Minnesota to face Sam Bradford and the Vikings.
The Vikings enter the new post-Adrian Peterson era in good shape after recording two wins from four pre-season games. Bradford looks to have improved even further after his record-setting season last year and will continue to provide safe looks for the purple offense.
The Saints recorded a 2-2 pre-season and will be looking for a big contribution by the former Viking Peterson as he debuts against his old side.
The Vikings are an ultra-professional outfit with a great defense that we expect to stifle the Saints.
We are backing the home side to bring us home in fashion.
Minnesota Vikings to win – $1.59
