Round 13 of the 2022 NRL season kicks off on the Gold Coast as the Titans host the North Queensland Cowboys in the second Queensland derby in two weeks.

The Cowboys will be without State of Origin stars Valentine Holmes, Jeremiah Nanai, Reuben Cotter and Tom Dearden, while the Titans will also miss captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui to representative duties and David Fifita through injury. The Titans will be hoping to bounce back following last weeks ugly collapse to the Brisbane Broncos, where the Titans conceded 31 unanswered points.

In 28 meetings the Cowboys have won on 17 occasions, although very few of those wins would have come while missing vital players such as Holmes and Cotter. While the Titans are facing issues with injury, they do field a relatively full-strength side, keeping their all-import spine intact. With the Titans playing at home, and the Cowboys missing key players, the two sides are hard to split. While the Cowboys should win, the safe bet is in alternative margin markets, where you can get $2.70 for either side to win by less than 6.5 points.

Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater has made the position at the back his own since round five, scoring five tries in eight matches and assisting on another six. His form has resulted in him being labelled one of the key reasons for the Cowboys’ rise to the top this season. For a Titans side that can be completely without answer for oppositions attack, Drinkwater is a great value play as an anytime tryscorer paying $3 with BetOnline.

Jayden Campbell was the shining light in a poor Titans side that was ultimately belted by the Broncos last weekend. Campbell scored a try of his own to go with a line break and two tackle breaks. Campbell is far too dangerous for any side to discount, and the $3.10 for him to score at any stage during the match is another great play.

Weather has dried up significantly in Queensland compared to recent months, and CBUS Super Stadium is one of the best points-scoring tracks in the country. With both sides missing key defensive players from their line-ups, creates the possibility for a high-scoring match. Look for both sides to throw the Steeden around in search of points, making the total points overs of 41.5 a great play at $1.90.

Key matchup: Jayden Campbell vs Scott Drinkwater

The battle of these two fullbacks will be one to keep an eye on, as they’re both as damaging as each other on their best day. Scott Drinkwater has as much ability to score himself as he does to distribute the ball and put his teammates in positions to score. On the other side of the park, Jayden Campbell is as damaging as anyone in the competition at the peak of his powers with the ability to break the game open from anywhere on the park. The winner of this battle will go a very long way to winning the game for their side.
