Round 16: Gold Coast Titans v New Zealand Warriors preview

Saturday afternoon football for round 15 of the NRL Premiership kicks off on the Gold Coast with the cellar-dwelling Titans hosting the wounded Warriors at Cbus Super Stadium.

The Titans have suffered back-to-back losses against the Rabbitohs and Tigers, forcing them into last place on the NRL ladder. With the Eels on the bye and the Tigers playing the struggling Raiders later this round, the Titans will be desperate for a win.

On the other hand, bad luck with injuries contributed to the Warriors’ three-game winning streak being snapped by the Storm last weekend. Now, with players also out through representative honours, winning matches like these becomes even more important.

Titans coach Des Hasler will be without Klese Haas (foot) and Moeaki Fotuaika, who will play for Queensland in State of Origin. Keenan Palasia has been named to start in the front row and Erin Clark will start at lock, with Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui and Joe Stimson coming off the bench.

Warriors coach Andrew Webster will be without Rocco Berry (shoulder) and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (suspended), while Kurt Capewell has been called up to the Maroons squad and Mitchell Barnett is in the New South Wales camp. Edward Kosi has been named to start on the wing, with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck returning from a hamstring injury at centre. Dylan Walker will start in the second row, with Tom Ale and Jacob Laban added to the interchange.

Titans vs Warriors NRL Rd 16 predictions

The underdog has won seven of the Warriors’ last eight matches and covered the line in each of the Titans’ last 10 games. Gold Coast have won three of their last five clashes with New Zealand, with two of those wins coming at this ground. At +150 with the top NRL bookmakers, the Titans are great value to win at home.

The Warriors have not started matches well as favourites, losing the first half on the last five occasions. If the Titans can start strong and go on to win, +220 at PlayUp for the home side to complete the half-time/full-time double is another great value play.

Titans forward David Fifita has been snubbed by the Maroons squad, but he scored a try in his most recent outing. He has four tries all up this season, has scored in three of his last four home games against the Warriors, and will be attacking the much smaller Walker. The +165 price at Neds is a great price for an almost-certain Fifita try.
