Round 14: Titans v Rabbitohs match preview

Saturday’s NRL action kicks off with a bottom-four tussle on the Gold Coast as the Titans take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs in round 14.

The Rabbitohs surprised many around the league last week when they snapped a six-game losing streak to beat the Eels at Accor Stadium. They still sit in last place on the NRL ladder, but a win here could shove their hosts to the bottom.

The Titans pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season last weekend when they travelled to Brisbane with an under-strength side and beat the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium. Sitting two games outside the top eight, the club will be looking to build on that momentum throughout the Origin period and set up a chance to play finals football.

The Titans welcome back Kieran Foran and Phillip Sami from hamstring injuries, with Jojo Fifita (pectoral) also returning to the starting side. Tom Weaver and Tony Francis drop out, while Jayden Campbell (knee) and Tanah Boyd (wrist) have been named in the reserves and could be late inclusions. With Joe Stimson as 18th man, Moeaki Fotuaika could be a late omission if he fails to back up from Wednesday night’s State of Origin match.

Souths interim coach Ben Hornby has dropped Jacob Host from last week’s side, naming Richie Kennar in the centres and shifting Michael Chee Kam to the second row. Cody Walker (calf) returns from injury at halfback in place of Dion Teaupa.

Gold Coast Titans v South Sydney Rabbitohs predictions

The Rabbitohs have lost each of their last six away matches. On the other side, the Titans have covered the line in each of their last eight games, with their last seven being decided by six points or less. Gold Coast were the more impressive winners in round 13, and they should be able to cover the -2.5 line in front of their home fans ($1.90).

Warm, dry conditions are predicted, which should make for some free-flowing footy at one of the best scoring grounds in Australian rugby league. Four of the Titans’ last five day matches have gone over the total points line, and this one should clear the 53.5 mark (-117.65).

Since returning from suspension, Rabbitohs superstar Latrell Mitchell has scored three tries in three games. He has also scored a try in each of his last seven meetings with the Titans, including the opener in three of the last five clashes. There is great value in the $4.80 price at Neds for Mitchell to score two or more tries in this game.
