Round 19: Gold Coast Titans v Parramatta Eels preview

The Gold Coast Titans appear to be turning their NRL 2024 season around, and they have a brilliant opportunity to continue the rebuild this Saturday as they face the Parramatta Eels at Cbus Super Stadium in round 19.

The Titans beat the struggling Sharks last weekend, having belted the Warriors by 60 points in round 16. In 15th position on the NRL ladder, the home side will need a win here to have any chance of competing for a finals spot.

The Eels have spiralled further out of control since the sacking of coach Brad Arthur earlier this season. After losing their last four matches, another defeat could push them back down to last place on the ladder.

With Moeaki Fotuaika in the Queensland squad for game three of State of Origin, Titans coach Des Hasler has named Josiah Pahulu to fill the breach in the front row. Jayden Campbell (hand) is back at five-eighth, Klese Haas (foot) returns in the second row, and Phillip Sami (calf) has been named on the bench.

Tanah Boyd and Joe Stimson drop to the reserves, where AJ Brimson (groin) has been named for a possible return from injury.

Eels interim coach Trent Barrett will be without Blues halfback Mitchell Moses, while Junior Paulo is out with a foot injury. Sean Russell drops to the reserves, Blaize Talagi moves into the centres, and Lorenzo Mulitalo is named on the wing to make his NRL debut.

Daejarn Asi will don the No.7 jersey, while Joe Ofahengue has been named in the front row. Matt Doorey joins the second row and Charlie Guymer steps into the lock position, with Shaun Lane and Bryce Cartwright dropping to the bench.

Titans v Eels Rd 19 predictions

The Eels have won three of their last five matches against the Titans, including two wins at this ground. However, their recent form has been poor, and they will be without on-field leaders Moses and Paulo. Returning to the scene of their 60-point win over the Warriors, the +150 at PlayUp is a good price for the Titans to win by 13 or more points.

Titans centre Brian Kelly has a brilliant record against the Eels, scoring tries in three of his last four appearances against them. While he has not scored since round 12 against the Broncos, this looks like the perfect matchup for Kelly to return to try-scoring form. Back him at +185 with rugby league betting sites.

Eels young gun Blaize Talagi has been the talk of the NRL this season, scoring nine tries in 11 matches. He has scored four-pointers in each of his last seven appearances in the starting line-up, and the +160 at Neds is a great price for Talagi to improve on that record.
