The best four legs for the round 7 AFL multi of the week
AFTER a tough round for tipsters last week, round seven provides a number of opportunities to compile a valuable multi bet.
Two big rivals face off at the home of football, the Giants are looking to do what they have never done before and the Power need to win to stay in finals contention.
Round seven promises to be an entertaining one, and we think we have put together a multi that encompasses all those enthralling contests and makes us some money along the way.
All odds this week are provided by Sportsbet.com.au, which is offering anyone looking to open a new account a matched first bet offer up to the value of $501.
Round 7 multi of the week tips:
Collingwood to defeat Carlton ($1.32)
Geelong to beat West Coast ($1.48)
GWS to defeat Fremantle ($1.33)
Port Adelaide to defeat Brisbane ($1.42)
Combined multi value: $3.68 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Collingwood vs. Carlton
Saturday, May 7 from 1.45pm at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne
Traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton kick us off at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues are flying high after recording back-to-back wins against Fremantle in Perth and Essendon.
The win against the Bombers was headlined by the return to form by ex-Pie Dale Thomas, who recorded 31 possessions and booted two goals.
It was the second stellar performance by Thomas in as many weeks; giving Blue supporters confidence that he could be worth the hefty price tag.
Collingwood’s form is better than what the statistics would suggest, and had it not been for lapses in concentration last week against the Eagles they could be right in the finals picture.
As it stands Nathan Buckley’s boys are four points adrift of eighth placed Hawthorn and are $6 outsiders to make the finals at Sportsbet.com.au.
The Pies are gunning for six in a row against the Blues on Saturday night, and it will take something extraordinary for Brendan Bolton’s men to win for the first time against their arch-rivals since 2012.
The Blues beat the Dons for the first time in four years last week, but a near full strength Collingwood will be a much tougher ask, and we are expecting the Pies to trounce their rivals to get our multi off on the right foot.
Multi tip: Collingwood to win – $1.32
Geelong vs. West Coast
Saturday, May 7 from 2.10pm at Simonds Stadium, Geelong
Two premiership fancies meet at Simonds Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles travel to face the Cats in Geelong.
The Eagles have failed to win away from home this season, and if they are to make an impact this season they are going to have to learn to win on the road.
The Cats have been fantastic at times this year and horrible at others.
Their 120-point win over the Suns last week was their most complete performance of the season and an ominous warning to the rest of the competition.
Can the Eagles cause an upset?
We do not believe so; in fact, a big Cats win is the most likely outcome in this match.
Multi tip: Geelong to win – $1.48
Fremantle vs. GWS
Saturday, May 7 from 8.10pm at Domain Stadium, Perth
The history chasing Giants fly across the Nullarbor to face the winless Dockers at Domain Stadium on Saturday night.
The Dockers are yet to register a win in season 2016 – their worst ever showing under current coach Ross Lyon.
The Giants are the form team of the competition, and after defeating Hawthorn last week by 12 goals the sky seems the limit for Leon Cameron’s men.
GWS have never beaten Fremantle in four attempts, but the Dockers have shown this season that Domain Stadium is not the fortress it once was.
The Giants have one of the most damaging forward lines in the AFL, and given the Dockers’ lack of height and talent down back; they will have their work cut out subduing the likes of Rory Lobb and Jeremy Cameron.
GWS should register their first ever win over the Dockers this week, condemning Ross Lyon to seven consecutive losses.
Port Adelaide vs. Brisbane
Sunday, May 8 from 4.40pm at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
An important match up for the Power looms on Sunday afternoon.
Port Adelaide host Brisbane at Adelaide Oval in a must-win match up for Ken Hinkley’s men – a loss here could rule them out of the finals; even at this early stage.
The Power are on the ninth line of betting at Sportsbet.com.au $3.75 to make the final eight.
Brisbane were expected to be one of the easy-beats this season, but after almost upsetting the Swans last week; no teams will be taking the Lions lightly for the remainder of the year.
In a big positive for Justin Leppitsch, All-Australian on-baller Danye Beams should be fit to play his first game of the season.
The task should be too much for the Lions however, given everything is on the line for Ken Hinkley and his chargers.
We expect the Power to bring our multi home in style.
Multi tip: Port Adelaide to win – $1.42
