T20 World Cup: Australia v Afghanistan preview
Australia will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup on Sunday morning (AEST), as they face Afghanistan in St Vincent.
The Aussies are strong favourites for this clash at $1.22 with Unibet, while Afghanistan offer value at $4.50 with Bet365.
In their opening match of the Super Eights, Australia secured a 28-run victory over Bangladesh. After restricting Bangladesh to just 140 in the first innings, the Aussies batted quickly, getting to 2-100 in 11.2 overs before the rain came down. Fast bowler Pat Cummins was a standout, collecting 3-29, while opening batsman David Warner continued his strong tournament with 53 off 35 balls.
Australia have been comfortable in every game so far this tournament, justifying their position as the second favourite to lift the trophy at $4 with top bookmakers.
It was a different story for Afghanistan in their match on Wednesday, as they fell to India by 47 runs. Despite three wickets each for Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan, they were set an imposing 182 to win. With the bat, regular wickets killed any momentum, as they were bowled out for 134.
After finishing second in their previous group, Afghanistan have now drawn the tougher side of the draw, with both India and Australia. Needing an upset to make it through to the semi-finals, they have extensive odds of $67 to win the tournament with top sports betting sites.

Australia v Afghanistan betting strategy
While Afghanistan has exceeded many expectations in this World Cup so far, facing a heavyweight such as Australia is going to be tough. Unless the Aussies have an almighty collapse, they should be comfortable winners at $1.22 with Unibet.
Veteran opener David Warner continues to impress in the final tournament of his career, with 169 runs at an average of 42.25. With two 50s already in this World Cup, he is excellent against both pace and spin. Going at a strike rate of 148, back the 37-year-old to quickly get on top of the Afghanistan attack, scoring 30 or more runs at $2.10 with top cricket betting sites.
If Afghanistan has any chance of causing an upset in this game, expect leg spinner Rashid Khan to play a major role. The 25-year-old has nine wickets in this World Cup, which includes three against India and four against New Zealand. With the likes of Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David all known for their struggles against spin, back Khan to take two or more wickets at $2.62.
