Sixers vs Thunder Big Bash ’19 Preview
When two interstate teams meet in the BBL, it makes for much-watch cricket, especially considering the form these Sydney teams are currently in. The Sydney Thunder boys are playing unexpectedly well, notching up two wins and a no-result in their first three matches, which were all against quality opposition. On the other side of the coin you have the Sydney Sixers, who started off like a house on fire, but recently have been a bit inconsistent. Both teams are very good when they play well and could be considered as possible finalists, but you do not know what will happen when they clash.
The opening batsman for both teams are amongst the league’s best, including Usman Khawaja and Josh Philippe, who are both inside the top three players for fours scored. This is certain to be an entertaining match that could go either way, so here are some of our tips for the upcoming clash between the Sixers and Thunder at the SCG.
Sixers vs Thunder top batsmen tips
- Daniel Hughes Over 20 Runs @ $1.74 with BetEasy
The opening Sydney Sixers batsman is one that likes to get started slowly, but once he settles it will be a good innings. Hughes is a very strong batsman and has great communication with fellow opener Josh Philippe, who normally run well between the crease. Hughes was very unlucky to be run out after brilliant fielding in his most recent innings, which is why he will go well in Saturday’s Derby.
- Usman Khawaja Over 30 Runs @ $2 with BetEasy
At this point in the BBL season, Usman Khawaja looks comfortable at the crease and can make very large totals. His duck against the Strikers in the game ruined by bushfire smoke has been viewed as an anomaly in our eyes, as his 66 against the Renegades beforehand was far more impressive. The young Sixers’ spinners will find it hard to knock off Khawaja, who is playing with world-class poise.
Sixers vs Thunder top bowling betting
- Tom Curran Most Wickets @ $4 with Bet365
Using pace to take wickets is one of the best strategies in the Big Bash League, and when you have players as good as Sean Abbott and Tom Curran, you are very dangerous with the ball in hand. Tom Curran has an excellent slow ball that he uses against part-time batsman, who are not expecting a floating bouncer. Curran will target the likes of Matthew Gilkes and Alex Ross, who are not the best players of variable pace.
- Daniel Sams Most Wickets @ $4 with Bet365
Daniel Sams has taken two wickets in all three of the opening trio of Sydney Thunder games, making him their most damaging bowler. Sams can be shaky when he first enters his spell, but his pace and dangerous areas have proven to be more useful than any other Sydney Thunder Bowler. The Sixers don’t have a weakness to pace bowling, but they will still struggle against what Sams brings to the table.
Sixers vs Thunder Big Bash ’19 betting predictions
- Sydney Thunder to win @ $1.85 with Bet365
Despite smashing the Scorchers in Perth and looking very handy earlier in the season, we think the Sixers will have a difficult time in this match. Sydney Thunder sit on top of the BBL standings without losing a match, and we don’t see them losing their first against their cross-town rivals, the Sydney Sixers.
